Experiencia fantástica: I had an excellent experience with Oaxaca Spanish Magic! I was a student for 3 weeks, with daily 3-hour long classes and progressed a lot in that time. I am very grateful to Flor, Miguel, Eduardo and Diana for their time and making this a great experience!

Experiencia fantástica: I just finished two weeks at Oaxaca Spanish Magic and it was a fantastic experience. The school is very well run, has nice spaces for learning, and is kept very clean. Not to mention it is very affordable. My teachers were excellent and they covered lots of material so that my progress was accelerated. The school is generous in that they give plenty of informative handouts with grammar and vocabulary, they serve treats and coffee during break, and most importantly, they break you into groups that ensure equal levels. During my second week as a beginner, two new students arrived that were also beginners. Since they were going over the same material that I had had in my first week, they found a teacher for me to have a private lesson at no extra cost. Now that I am home I can continue my lessons online for a very low cost. Another thing that I like is that the school isn't too big, so I got to know the other students. One weekend we all went to a concert together. So much fun! It's never too late to start learning Spanish.

Experiencia fantástica: Flor and her team are amazing teachers. The lesson was so helpful and affordable. Afterwards, we went on a free tour with Flor and other students. Practicing Spanish and getting Flor’s taste of Oaxaca (which was chocolatey!).

Tuve clases particulares con Mariella y me encantó charlar con ella sobre la vida y las reglas del español. ¡Recomiendo esta escuela al 100 %!

Experiencia fantástica: Had an awesome week with 3 hours per day there. We had clases with Flor, Diana and Mariella. They are all very good teachers. Learned a lot grammar and they always made sure that we follow. The pace was all about us. Got a few handouts to keep learning while travelling. They offer some afternoon excursions like visiting the Mercados to practice conversations.

Experiencia fantástica: This is an excellent place to learn Spanish. Flor will take very good care of you and make sure you're getting the instruction that you need. The excursions and family vibe make it an excellent choice for solo students. The teachers are patient, kind and very good at their jobs.

Experiencia positiva: I signed up for a week at the school and ended up doing two. Both weeks were heavily focused on conversation, and the instructors were very good about correcting my Spanish without making me feel like an idiot. There was just enough homework to give me something to do in the evenings. I also was able to come home with some helpful worksheets. Sra Flor and Miguel were welcoming, attentive and hospitable. The school itself is very well situated - just north of Centro. There's a lovely courtyard for breaks. My only criticism was when the class got up to five people; that seemed to be about one too many for everyone to have an opportunity to speak much, but overall it was still enjoyable and useful. The school was probably a little fuller that week than usual because it was the week before Day of the Dead. I probably should have just sprung for an extra hour of private tutoring. Next time! (because there will be a next time)

Experiencia negativa: I took a week of group lessons here, was given a “placement test” that I don’t really think tests anything. Really basic questions and then for each tense, they ask you how much you know it (without actually testing it). I told them I’d like to focus on conversation, don’t want to do workbook exercises as I’ve done the last grammar topic (subjunctive) in three books already and don’t need more. I’m grateful they at least listened to the no workbook part. The classes were half “conversation / grammar” and half reading. I put the first part in quotes because I was paired with a couple who caused our class to talk about: how high various cities are, “how do you say xyz in Spanish”, conversions between metric and imperial systems - aka useless things you can just look up on the internet. This isn’t conversation, it was entirely useless and an utter waste of time. If students are going to do that, the teacher needs to take control of the class to steer it into conversation and stop that. The conversation part was also extremely unstructured where the teacher didn’t prepare anything except for one day, we did question cards. When I finally asked if we could have actual conversation and not talk about facts that you can look up on the internet, the teacher told me this is conversation, although he did actually switch to real conversation shortly after. Too bad this only happened on the last day. On the first day, there was another student in my class and she randomly started taking a video of everyone in the class. Made me uncomfortable and I feel like the school should put in guidelines for not allowing this type of behavior. For reading, I essentially ended up translating it on google translate and sort of reading the Spanish next to it - the reading was too difficult for me with too many words I don’t know and I had no idea what was going on. After two days of this, I decided I can’t keep doing this, as it’s extremely useless and I can pick books at my level to read at home. Generally speaking, we don’t need to spend 1 hr 15 mins to read. I spoke up about it and when the director talked to me about it, she repeatedly said I should be open-minded and try it. I did try it for two days. It’s absolutely useless, and I had to explain why to her 2-3 times before she stopped telling me to be open-minded. Maybe I’m not the one who needs to be open-minded. In the end, I chose to stay for half the class (the “conversation / grammar” section), got a refund for the rest. The activities were also not really informative, they were all run by Flor, the director. We had a convo about day of the dead that really just turned into a lecture about how we need to be careful safety-wise when visiting cemeteries and not to be rude tourists. When we took a walk at Jalatco, she didn’t explain anything - I could’ve gone on my own and it would’ve been the same experience. She and her brother (Miguel) invited us to go to the cemetery with them, and Miguel was way, way, way more talkative and informative than Flor; he should do the tours. We also had a hot chocolate and mole tasting which were nice. Flor also asked me on the last day if I’m from Vietnam or China or Japan. I usually attribute this question to ignorance, but if you’re running an English language school, surely you’ve met Asian-looking people not from Asia. I don’t really believe this is ignorance because I’m assuming you know (I could be wrong, maybe you don’t know) - and I view it as a microaggression. How can you ask that as the director of a Spanish school who accepts students from all over the world? In any case, I wouldn’t recommend this school. Classes aren’t structured and teachers don’t correct your Spanish (heard both of these feedback from other students too), not appreciative about the assumption of where I’m from based on how I look, activities weren’t informative. Honestly, it was a waste of my time. My Spanish didn’t progress at all during this week.

Experiencia positiva: I’ve been taking Spanish classes online when I decided to try an immersive program. My online teacher is from Oaxaca and recommended Oaxaca Spanish Magic so I emailed them and immediately heard back. After 2.5 weeks of being with Oaxaca Spanish Magic (including the home stay), I feel like my Spanish has noticeably improved! Ime is the BEST teacher and I’m so thankful to have learned with her. She was patient while always correcting us and explained more challenging topics well. Class was always fun with her and I can honestly say that I’m walking away from this experience with a much better grasp on listening and speaking Spanish! Regarding the home stay, the woman I stayed with was so kind, patient with my Spanish, and so accepting of me. I felt very welcomed and at home without any problem at all. Overall, this experience has been a great one and I’m thankful for it.

Experiencia fantástica: I couldn’t recommend Oaxaca Spanish Magic more. I took 5 weeks of classes here. They are affordable and center to almost everything in El Centro. The school is beautiful, my teacher was incredible and the owners were always so sweet. It was such a good experience, I couldn’t recommend them more. I took private lessons and my teacher created a structure program for me, helping me explore many areas that I had been struggling with on my own.

Experiencia fantástica: I had a great experience at Spanish Magic Oaxaca, and I highly recommend taking this opportunity to improve your Spanish skills. I appreciated the exposure to culture and the subtleties of the language, along with skill building. I am a retired teacher and educational scientist, so tend to be critical and analytical about my own learning experiences. Flo, the director, is an expert and experienced teacher. She creates a warm environment with high expectations. She did an outstanding job of pretesting in a relaxed way to match her instruction to my needs and the needs of my small group. Another aspect I especially appreciated was her method of correcting errors. She did two things especially well according to the research: First, while we were practicing conversational skills, she took notes, and then, she formed her review lessons and extensions around our strengths and weaknesses, and second, as we were practicing a new skill, (for example, using a specific verb form), Flo corrected the speaker in the moment, had the person repeat the correct word and restate the sentence and continue. No fuss, no embarrassment, just “the word is” and continue. I could say so much more, but I’m so thankful to Flo for her warmth, sense of humor and fun, and for helping me to make so much growth in my Spanish learning.

Experiencia negativa: If I could give the owner of this business a zero star rating I would. I have spent what amounts to years in Mexico and wanted to learn a more nuanced understanding of Spanish grammar. After paying and meeting with the owner, she decided on her own to not meet with me, because she got mad for what she had thought as me missing an appointment. I had not missed the appointment and had the proof, which I shower her. It was a failing of technology for both of us. However, her behavior was so unprofessional and negatively personal in regards to her emotional reaction, I was stunned. I do not recommend this business at all. I have used other organizations in Oaxaca City who have been amazing. This is not the one.

Experiencia fantástica: I recently spent a very happy week improving my Spanish at Oaxaca Spanish Magic. Every interaction with the school starting from my very first enquiry was friendly and easy. I joined a group class taught by Adan who is a very skilled and experienced teacher. His lessons were fun and pitched at just the right level for my Spanish. My group gathered together each morning around a couple of tables in the school's pretty patio area and enjoyed lively conversation practice. tackled lots of useful grammer revision and picked up tons of great new vocab. Thank you for having me in your school for a week - I wish I could have stayed longer!

Experiencia fantástica: I spent two weeks with Oaxaca Spanish Magic and I can't recommend them enough as THE school to go improve your Spanish at. I did 2 weeks of private lessons with (I believe) most of the instructors including the director herself, Flor. Every instructor had their own unique method of teaching and it was a great experience to learn Spanish through different approaches. My Spanish improved a lot from my very first day as I was taught the grammatical structure of tenses that I didn't quite grasp that well and then reinforced it with tons of verbal conversation to really cement the new teachings. Even outside of my Spanish classes, I would speak to the staff about recommendations for places to eat, things to try, and learn a bit more about the culture of Oaxaca. It really feels like a community here and I would urge anyone that's thinking about taking classes here to do it and I can promise that you won't regret it. Siempre había tarea para practicar lo que estudiaba en la clase y la repasábamos juntos en la próxima clase. Yo tuve clases con 3 maestros: Eduardo , Imelda y Flor. Todos eran buenos y enseñaron con paciencia y claridad. Me encantó conversaciones en grupo sobre lo que pasó cada día y que haríamos cuando estuvimos en Oaxaca. Los jueves, teníamos recorridos con señora flor a lugares alrededor de Oaxaca. Yo visité y me divertí en el árbol del Tule y otra semana anduvimos por el barrio de Xochimilco. Experiencia fantástica: I studied for 5 weeks at this school and absolutely loved it! The teachers are very professional, patience and passionate about teaching the spanish language! The classes are a good combination of learning grammar, doing exercices, speaking, writing, and so on. The school has a nice mix of students from over the world and of all ages. As a plus, the directora of the school takes the students out on a trip every week. Witch is nice to learn more about Oaxaca city and also get to know the other students. And of course, a nice way to practice spanish together. I will definatly will go back to this school when I visit Oaxaca again. Highly recommended!

Experiencia fantástica: This is a terrific place to learn or improve your Spanish. Most of the classes during our 6 days were held in the sunny courtyard with three groups of students spread out so there was no interference. Our instructor, Mariella, was patient and responded well to what we wanted to learn. She is an excellent teacher. Other staff members, Miguel and owner Flor were also very helpful. Highly recommended.

I had 4 different teachers to always be at the most suitable level for my progress, and they were all very professional, encouraging, and very kind. In addition to the classes, there were activities outside of school, which allowed me to practice the language and get to know the teachers and students better. I thank the entire school team, and I highly recommend going there.

She enjoyed the experience, said it was the best part of our trip, met new people and learned both Spanish Language and Mexican culture. The school is organized, on-time. Staff responded to questions immediately. Gorgeous learning space. Easy to walk to from Central areas. Highly recommend! 5 stars.

Experiencia fantástica: A local family run language school. Very comfortable and low key with excellent teachers , small classes and a flexible programme for all levels. Up to 4 hours group lessons a day and the possibility of private classes and/ or intercambio and family stay. All of this for very attractive prices in the centre of Oaxaca in a courtyard house with a pretty patio garden. I highly recommend it all. This is a perfect place to learn Spanish. Thank you.

Experiencia fantástica: 10 stars! I had the best week learning Spanish with Flor and wish I could have stayed longer. She is an incredible teacher and my Spanish has gotten so much better. I had a mixture of group and private classes and opted for a great homestay with a Mexican family. Her teaching style is excellent - she emphasises the importance of practicing through conversation whilst sharing grammar theory. Everyone who works in the school is really kind and fun. Miguel is fantastic and gave lots of great recommendations for Oaxaca too. I really wish I could have stayed longer. The actual school and terrace is lovely. I’d absolutely recommend that you go to Oaxaca Spanish Magic, and if you can stay longer than a week then do it!

Experiencia fantástica: Amazing Spanish school in Oaxaca! Flor and Miguel are organised and very friendly. The school is well equipped and has the most beautiful courtyard I've ever seen! I did 20 hours per week in a group class (which had one other student). I learned a lot and because of the small class size, I got a lot of practice speaking! I asked for some changes mid-program and the school accommodated me with utmost smoothness and professionalism. The classes were very small and interactive and I learned so much in only a week. They consistently go above and beyond, one day my teacher even took me to the market to learn directions and we had a local dessert. Also everyday at break there is a traditional snack or treat waiting for you. When I wanted to come back to the school they were extremely flexible and had great communication. I have travelled a lot around Mexico and Peru and this is the best school I have attended. Strongly recommend Oaxaca Magic, where you will be welcomed with kindness and learn a lot! My Spanish was so basic when I started, but after a week I improved so much. She is a super good teacher, I would really recommend this place. I had so much fun during the classes, thank you Flor! Experiencia fantástica: This school was the crown jewel of my time in Oaxaca. Life gave me three months in Mexico which I chose to spend in Oaxaca studying Spanish. Of all of the schools in Oaxaca City, I chose this one and I'm so glad I did. I entered the school on an A1 level Basis and left it nearly a B2 speaker of Spanish. My teachers Lalo and Cesar were extremely skilled at getting new facets of the language into my conscious and subconscious super fast. They taught me more than just the language. Because I was open to it, they taught me so much about Mexican culture, how life is seen and experienced. Special thanks to Miguel and Flor. Miguel ran logistics exceptionally. Flor was never my teacher but I could tell from how she ran the school that she really is the top of her field. She focuses on what concretely works in terms of teaching a language and doesn't get caught up in the hype of "hacks". The ultimate hack for learning a language is just understanding how the brain learns a language anyways, and everything I experienced here focused on that. The way she manages the education of the Spanish language at this school has my complete respect and is on par with my experiences at top schools in other countries. It was such a delight to experience this level of excellence, I learned so quickly and I really enjoyed everyone's company. My only regret is that I had to leave. I know when the time comes to brush up on my Spanish I will return here. If you have serious time to invest in learning Spanish, trust me, you want to consider this school. Highly recommended.

Experiencia fantástica: My husband and I took a week of beginner Spanish classes here - it was fantastic. Flor is a wonderful teacher who really cares for her students and even in a group setting, she gives good individual attention. I would love to return for private lessons with Flor! We started with a very basic understanding of Spanish but we learned SO much in one week. If you are considering classes here, my only recommendation is to sign up for more than a week! The location is lovely and all the instructors seem really passionate about teaching. Everyone is very friendly and makes you feel so welcome. Highly recommend for aspiring Spanish speakers of any level!

Experiencia fantástica: We took five classes, 3 hours each morning from 9-12 Mon- Friday, and we could not be happier with our time and progress. Flor is an excellent instructor, and she structures the classes in an exceptionally engaging and productive manner. I myself began the week with essentially non existent Spanish skills or knowledge, and at the end feel not only capable to navigate communication, but also exceptionally well- equipped to continue learning the language independently. We are already discussing coming back to Oaxaca again solely to attend classes with Flor. As a teacher of English as a foreign language with over 2400 hours of experience myself, I can confidently say Flor understands not only the nuances of language and grammar, but also how to communicate and teach these concepts. Experiencia fantástica: My boyfriend and I took classes here for three weeks and my Spanish comprehension and speaking skills improved considerably. If I visit Oaxaca again I would take more classes here, I had absolutely no negative experiences! I had classes with three different teachers and enjoyed each of them and gained so much knowledge about the area’s cultures and customs. The school was a very pleasant environment to learn and meet other travelers. At the beginning of class I was barely able to remember the months and days and at the end of three weeks I was able to have entire conversations in Spanish with the teachers! I wish I was here longer so I could take more classes! Wonderful school, wonderful people, I recommend to everyone looking to learn Spanish at ANY level.

Experiencia fantástica: Amazing school with equally amazing teachers. Very professional establishment. The environment was relaxing and friendly. My niece and I were lucky enough to have Flor(the director) as our maestra and she was definitely the best. Spoiled my niece rotten but she was fantastic. My Spanish still isn’t the best(due to my lack of consistent studying)but after just a month with 3hrs a day instruction with Flor it definitely improved. I feel confident enough with ordering, answering, and asking basic questions. In the future I would definitely return.

Experiencia fantástica: Oaxaca is a great place to study spanish. If you’re a beginner or quite advanced- you’ll Still learn something with native instructors. I attended four days of classes here in April 2019. My teacher was prepared, energetic, effective and ON-time. The director communicates well and was flexible and kind. The place is a minute from the historic Santo Domingo church and tons of shops and restaurants. The school facility is beautiful and you can expect coffee and a snack in the morning. I’ve attended other language schools in Oaxaca and honestly, none of them are bad. Spanish Magic was the best because of the class options, instructors, setting, and fair pricing. Email the director and get on with your language learning.

Experiencia fantástica: I think it's the cheapest Spanish school in town. You can negotiate the price. I applied with someone else and they gave us a deal. I took a group lesson for 2weeks and learned a lot.
