Spanish Immersion School: Opiniones

Experiencia fantástica: I enjoyed a very positive learning experience at Spanish Immersion School. My teacher, Tony, fully catered to my needs and expectations. He invested a lot of time to prepare for our sessions, with detailed and clear grammatical explanations, exercises to do together, questions to answer to mix both verbal and written practice, all of it followed by homework that we reviewed in detail the next day— all of it with clarity and patience as I made mistakes with some of the verbs. In addition, Tony mixed many cultural information and even prepared for the study of a song of Bad Bunny after I had told him my interest for the singer — and difficulty to understand his lyrics. Net, Tony was very professional and helpful, in addition to being very pleasant to study with and eager to share about his culture. The school also organizes cultural events, like the visit of local artisans explaining their craft, which was very interesting.

Experiencia fantástica: Had such a great experience taking classes with Alfonso and staying with a local host family. I loved how we had the option to do classes at the school and also in nearby markets and cafes, this was really helpful for my learning style. Alfonso really worked with me on what I wanted to improve on and made small corrections as we spoke. Oaxaca is a gorgeous city and you’ll have plenty of chances to practice your Spanish around town because everyone is so friendly. I’ll definitely be back to take classes again, hasta la próxima!

Experiencia positiva: I spent two weeks last year at a different language school in Oaxaca. I decided to try something different this year and went to Spanish immersion school, but after the first day I had to leave. There are no classrooms, and there are many students getting instructions in one large courtyard with many small tables. For me and my style of learning, the distractions proved to be overwhelming. Between the many conversations as well as the visual movement all around me and not having a blackboard or some reference for writing I could not learn.. the two instructors I had were very nice, although I did not get much in the way of real instruction. We just spoke, for 2 1/2 hours with each one. I am a level B1 Spanish speaker and was looking for much more structure. In the way the language is taught. I returned to my previous language school for the rest of my stay here and the contrast was striking. Obviously, from all the five star reviews, there are many happy students, but it did not work at all for me.

Experiencia fantástica: I spent a week taking classes and couldn’t be more satisfied with the experience. Everyone was friendly and helpful, and the location is perfectly set up for one-on-one or small group instruction. Being close to the city center made it easy to explore, experience the local culture, and connect with the wonderful people who live here. I’d also like to especially mention my teacher, and now friend, Miguel, who did an outstanding job identifying exactly how to help me advance my Spanish learning.

Experiencia fantástica: Language school and student resident. Some people only stay there, another take only classes there, and another does both. Students are mostly from the US, mostly retired people or something close. Although the classes are one-to-one style, I was able to make friends with other students. While I was there, no activities for students. I stayed with the host family via the school. The family was nice and also the teacher. No complaints. I was able to improve my Spanish even though my level was relatively high enough to have a good conversation with locals already.

Experiencia fantástica: I just spent a week at Spanish Immersion School and it was a fantastic experience. I have studied Spanish at schools in Mexico, Costa Rica and Spain and this is the finest school I have ever encountered. Their one on one program is unique and extremely effective. Their teaching staff is motivated and engaged. I worked with two different instructors for a total of 4 hours a day and the experience was an absolute pleasure. Also, the school is located close to the center of Oaxaca within easy walking distance of fantastic restaurants. Anyone who is committed to Spanish should seriously consider this school.

Experiencia fantástica: I committed to 5 weeks here starting with an intermediate level in Spanish (probably high B1). I was a bit worried at first because this school had received so many good reviews online that I didn't know if I could trust them. My worries were all quickly dispelled. The school is professional and clearly maintains high standards for its teachers. My teacher Jacob had many years of experience and we had a lot of fun conversations fully in Spanish. My other teacher Ivan pushed me hard on my grammar and we had fun chats about culture and stereotypes of different countries. The homestay with Marina's family were all kind and helpful, giving useful recommendations of things to do, and filling breakfasts every morning (no shortage of food!). I highly recommend Spanish Immersion School from anywhere from a short 1 week tourist Spanish boost to something like a month long stay that I did. The cafe inside the school has good prices and delicious food, a great option for lunch if you don't want to leave. I probably left middle of B2. If I had one small note it would be that I wish I didn't have to pay in cash.

Experiencia fantástica: ¡¡Gracias por todo! An incredible experience - honestly wish I stayed way longer. Ivan and Miguel are increíble teachers. The school, staff, everyone is so kind and I’m so grateful for this experience. Thank you y nos vemos pronto :)

Experiencia fantástica: I just left a 10 day trip to Oaxaca where I stayed and studied at this school and I couldn’t be happier with my experience. They were flexible and worked with me to make everything work well for the time I had. I had two different teachers who both were great. I stayed at the school but they also have home stays and can recommend other accommodations. They are available for questions and recommendations and even cook you breakfast! I’m hoping to return in the future and bring my family.

Experiencia fantástica: I spent 2 weeks at the Spanish Immersion School in Oaxaca and highly recommend ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I had an intensive course of 5 hours a day with Citlali and Jacob and stayed in a close by family home with Marina and Oscar. The classes with Citlali and Jacob were fantastic, I couldn’t recommend them both more. The teaching was highly personalised to my learning needs and the teachers kept things interesting with lessons on the Oaxacan culture, trips to the market, tarot readings and mezcal tastings ✌️ I’m super grateful to the teachers and the school organisers including Lázaro, Sílvia and Magdalena. I also spent a week with the same school in Puerto Escondido and highly recommend it also

Experiencia fantástica: I highly recommend this school! All the teachers and staff are incredibly friendly and knowledgeable. I was looking for a school to practice my conversational skills one-on-one, and this was the perfect place for it.

Experiencia positiva: I attended 4 hrs a day, one on one lessons for 13 days. Juan Jose and Jacob were my excellent teachers. I enjoyed their different teaching styles and learned a lot. I stayed with a wonderful family (Marina) walking distance from the school. As others have said, it can get a bit noisy but manageable. Lessons are customized, no workbook, so lots of handwritten paper handouts which at times felt a little disjointed to me. Otherwise, it was a great experience, and I would recommend the school.

Experiencia fantástica: I stayed at the school for about a week and it was probably one of best decisions I made this year. I have been recommending this place to everyone that I know. It's such a gem. The room comes with breakfast in the courtyard, where you can meet other students & teachers. The vibe is very chill, studious and community oriented. Lorena and Magdalena were the most attentive and kind hosts. I didn't plan anything but the Lagaro (Principal) found my teacher Nallely in about 10 mins. Nallely is an amazing teacher, I barely speak any Spanish but she was patient, funny and intelligent. She even took me to a doctor's office. Oaxaca is an amazing place but don't think that I would have loved it as much if I didn't stay here. Although I was traveling alone, I felt like I was home. I ended up extending my trip as I loved my experience.

Experiencia fantástica: I had a fantastic experience with the Spanish Immersion School. Just a few days before arriving in Oaxaca, I reached out to see if they had availability for 25 hours of classes per week and a homestay for 17 days. They responded quickly with several great options. They arranged a warm and welcoming host family in Xochimilco, about a 20-minute walk from the school, and paired me with two incredible teachers. I learned so much during my time there — classes were engaging and often took place outside the classroom, at museums or local markets, which made the learning feel even more immersive and connected to the culture. The host family made me fantastic breakfasts every morning, and we had some truly lovely conversations during those meals. On my last day, when I had an early morning flight out of Oaxaca, they helped arrange a taxi and even woke up at the crack of dawn to see me off. That kind of care meant so much. I’ll truly cherish my time there and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this experience to anyone looking to learn Spanish in a meaningful, memorable way.

Experiencia fantástica: I did a week of Spanish classes with Nallely, and I went in with limited vocabulary and knowledge of the language but it was worth it! The classes were tailored to my knowledge and we spent time learning new vocabulary, popular expressions, verbs, etc. We also had many good laughs and I very much appreciated her patience and attentiveness throughout the week. I particularly enjoyed our mini field trips to nearby local museums, markets, and walks outside of the school. Those experiences made learning the language much more immersive and it was a great way to learn more about Oaxacan culture! Overall, I'm very grateful for having spent the time learning Spanish here. Everyone was very friendly, kind, and welcoming. Also shout out to the cafe inside the school, they serve very tasty molletes.

Experiencia fantástica: My daughter and I had an incredible experience at Spanish Immersion School in Oaxaca over spring break 2025! We spent 10 days immersed in Spanish, with 8 days of one-on-one instruction from our amazing teachers—Yara, Yara, Sandra, and Citlati—who made learning engaging, effective, and fun. One of the highlights was the immersive field trips with our teachers, where we explored Oaxaca’s vibrant culture firsthand. We visited landmarks, museums, bustling markets, and even sampled delicious local ice creams! These outings truly enriched our learning experience by allowing us to practice Spanish in real-world settings. Our accommodations on campus were perfect—clean, convenient, and cozy. The duplex apartment was a great home base, and Magdalena, who runs the lodging, ensured everything was well taken care of. Every morning, we enjoyed a fresh and tasty breakfast, which was a delightful way to start our days. The affordability of the program, especially coming from the U.S., made this an unbeatable opportunity. We had time to sightsee over the weekend, making the most of our stay in colorful Oaxaca. Overall, we left with improved Spanish skills, wonderful memories, and deep appreciation for the teachers and staff who made this experience so special. Highly recommend this program to anyone looking for an immersive and enjoyable way to learn Spanish!

Experiencia fantástica: I took classes here and would highly recommend to anyone looking to effectively improve their Spanish. Individualized attention from the 1:1 class structure ensures that you can receive immediate feedback, move at your own pace, and spend as much time as possible engaged in immersive conversation. Teachers are super knowledgeable, capable, and attentive. I worked with Nay and Noemi. Both developed custom lesson plans based on my needs and created a safe learning environment. Other highlights include my homestay experience and outings to markets and museums. Can’t stress enough how fun, fulfilling, and helpful my time here was.

¡Muchas gracias!

Experiencia fantástica: It was a truly worthwhile, most informative, and good learning experience. The school is run very well and my personal needs met. Not only was it fun learning, but my instructor Armando Ruiz prepared each class specifically towards my personal needs each day. It was especially interesting because we communicated in three languages; Spanish, English, and Italian. I would like to thank my instructor, director Lorenzo, and the immersion school for 2 fruitful and wonderful weeks.

Experiencia fantástica: I loved being at this school! Nallely was the best teacher. Not only was she a great teacher, she was kind, hilarious and cheeky, and we had a fantastic week together. We went out to the cafes and markets, where she guided me in my speaking, and she helped with any and all questions I had. What a fantastic week! I would recommend trying to get morning classes if possible. If you take the afternoon classes, stay on the ground floor where it’s cooler!

Experiencia fantástica: This is a very good Spanish immersion school that delivers consistently good and taylored instruction by consistently good instructors. There’s plenty of flexibility to modify your curriculum. This school is good for all levels of aptitude and experience. It’s located in a very safe neighborhood close to all of the best cultural experiences that Oaxaca has to offer. I could not recommend it more highly.

Experiencia fantástica: Our family has been taking classes with the Spanish Immersion School for several months and we are thrilled with our experience. Our instructors are excellent, we have all learned so much - and as an added bonus the on site cafe has excellent food and drinks! The outdoor courtyard is the perfect space to learn, and the staff are all very warm and approachable. We plan to continue our classes for the foreseeable future and are so happy to have found this wonderful school.

Experiencia fantástica: An incredible program with fantastic teachers in two beautiful settings. I did one week at the school in the city and then took the ADO bus to Puerto Escondido for another week of the program at their amazing school there. I would highly recommend both locations and thought that having a mix of city and beach was the perfect way to spend two weeks. With the one on one model, I really appreciated that the teachers tailor your time together to what you are hoping to achieve while never making it feel like too much at once. I left my time in Oaxaca feeling much more confident speaking and I also learned a lot about Oaxacan culture and traditions. Dont hesitate to book your time at Spanish Immersion School!

Experiencia fantástica: Spent a fantastic week learning with attentive teachers that met me at my level on the first day. I’ve been studying Spanish for 2 years and have been at a B2 level for the past 4 months. The teachers were able to assess my level quickly and we worked on some of my weaknesses while engaging in conversations about all kinds of topics. I can really feel how well my conversation has improved and varios Mexican idioms are now part of my Spanish proficiency. I hope to return as this is truly a one of a kind experience. ¡Gracias todos!

Experiencia fantástica: I had a wonderful experience studying at the Spanish Immersion School for 1 month! My teachers Karen and Elvira were so nice, encouraging and tailored everything to my level and needs. I went from not speaking much Spanish to comfortably holding simple conversations during my time there. All the staff always made me feel welcome, and the on-site café made it easy to grab a meal or snack while learning. My classes were well-structured, with two hours of lessons with one teacher, an hour break, and two hours with the other teacher. The school also offered fun activities like market walks, tamale-making, and dance classes. I chose to stay at a nearby Airbnb and the school was very easy to walk to. I’d highly recommend this school and hope to return someday!

Experiencia fantástica: Y'all if you're looking for a Spanish immersion school, this is it. I just signed up online after I decided to spend a few weeks in Oaxaca for the purpose of la cultura and to learn Spanish. I would say I was an advanced beginner, and now I feel like my understanding and use of preterito and imperfecto has improved from before. Mis maestros Cristál y Ruben estan muy paciente, inteligente y amable. Personally I loved Fridays at the school, because we went to the Central de Abastos Mercado, and I got to have Doña Vale memelitas (yes the queen from Netflix!). I didn't stay at the school for lodging, but it was great getting to know other staff from Lazaro to Juan Jose as someone who just did the school. I highly rec the 5hours/daily program. Yo siento que mis pensamientos son todos en Español ahora. Strong wifi and they have an in-house cafe. Truly an experience I'll never forget. Gracias todos para la experencia.

Experiencia fantástica: Excellent one-on-one Spanish classes. We had great teachers who tailor instruction to the individual’s needs and goals. It was as perfect for me & my husband, who were in different levels. The school also provides on-campus accommodation (breakfast included) with very reasonable rates. We loved to socialize with fellow students every morning at breakfast. Magdalena, the very sweet landlady & her team take care of everyone & everything. There are many returning students and we’ll return for more classes in the future.

Experiencia fantástica: I did 2 weeks of 4h... 2h in the morning 1h break and 2h more and I was done at 2pm. I really recommend that school. SYLVIA and RUBEN were extremely professional, knowledgeable and super friendly. I felt very comfortable with them. The food at the cafeteria was really good and affordable. I was staying with a family at 9min walking. Everything was really good including their breakfast and the room they provided. I m really happy I came. Oaxaca has so much to see and so many Restos, galleries and beautiful statutes.

Experiencia fantástica: Five family/friends took semi intensive classes. We all were very impressed by the caliber of teachers and the organization of the school. The one-on-one teaching was perfect and we learned so much more than just language. Their knowledge of Oaxaca and culture allowed us to continue to explore and learn about this amazing place and culture. We took the cooking class one evening with Magdalena! Fantastic. Highly recommend this school!

Experiencia fantástica: Oh my! Where to begin? As a "veteran" Spanish immersion program student over the past 20 years, attending schools in Mexico, Honduras, Nicaragua and Spain, I am excited to say that my 3 weeks at the Spanish Immersion School in Oaxaca last winter were my very best! I chose to stay in one of the rooms on campus, which enriched my experience exponentially. Not only were the breakfasts that Magdalena and her family prepared each morning delicious, the opportunity to interact with them and the other students was very special. I truly felt that I was part of a Mexican family for even such a short period of time! I took 4 hrs. of classes per day and the teachers I worked with -- Vanessa and Samara -- were outstanding. I appreciated the flexibility that allowed me to choose the areas I wanted to focus on, yet to remain open to their ideas for enhancing my conversational skills. The location of the school is fantastic! It's still in the Centro, but just on the edge so much quieter than one would expect. The school is well-run, the staff is enthusiastic and well-prepared. There is even a wonderful cafe in the courtyard that offers excellent food during the day. Without hesitation I encourage Spanish language aficionados to consider attending this wonderful school!

Experiencia fantástica: Highest recommendation! Recomendación más alta! I took lessons here with Alfonso for 8 days this past July. Highlight of my trip for so many reasons. Alfonso is an expert teacher and I really loved his style of taking students around the city, teaching about the culture and spending time writing and speaking as you do that. Can't recommend him enough. The school is a cool little community. I didn't stay there but I enjoyed running into other students around the city. Even with only 8 days, my Spanish comprehension and pronunciation improved so much and I feel so much more motivated to continue. I picked up a very hip intercambio partner while I was in town and we practice virtually. Glad I kept all Alfonso's quick guides that he wrote which makes it easy to use my spanish! Muchas gracias a Alfonso, Silvia y Lázaro! Emocionada de volver!

Experiencia fantástica: I have traveled all through Mexico in various states and taken Spanish classes at many schools. Just this year, I have taken classes in the city of Mexico, Merida, Cuernavaca, and here. I can confidently say that Spanish Immersion School is THE BEST SCHOOL to learn Spanish. In fact, this is the only school that I have come back to for the second time! All of the teachers are amazing! You can choose to do your class at the school itself or in cafes. Sometimes I will say “oh I’m looking for a specific book” and we will do class in a bookstore. Or I really want to go to a garden and we do class there! It’s a great way to get to know the city and learn Spanish! Lazaro owns the school and is a great administrator, ready and available if you need anything. Silvia is a great admin who will communicate through email. My favorite teacher of course if Cristal! She is so talented at pinpointing holes in my Spanish. I can have in conversation with her and she will be able to pinpoint our week’s focus. In all of my Spanish learning, she has been the one that has brought up my level of Spanish. She is a gifted teacher and a friend I hold dearly. I am really grateful for Juan José as a teacher as well. He taught me a lot of colloquial phrases, mannerisms, and culture. Through our conversational lessons, he has improved my connection and relationship with my suegra immensely. We have always had a good relationship but Juan José helped me have a new connection with my mother in law with the street Spanish he taught me. (He also taught me subjunctive and grammatically Spanish!) I am a school teacher myself so I am always interested in the structure of schools and teaching methods. I (and I’m sure the other teachers too) admire Jacob as a teacher leader. The first time I came, I came as a solo female traveler. I took classes 8 hours a day. I met lawyers and other professionals who were doing the same - some were sponsored by their work to really learn Spanish. This time, I came with my girlfriends - they are They have a very basic level of Spanish. They absolutely LOVED it! They had a great connection with Leída and Karen. My girlfriends are retired and this was an important trip for them as learning Spanish has always been a dream! Next time, I want to do the classes in puerto Escondido with my husband and two kids! I’m telling you - you will be mistaken if you go to any other school. This isn’t just the best school in Oaxaca, it’s the best school in Oaxaca. You will not find another school that is as flexible and individualized for your learning. Whether you’re a child, high schooler, college student, young adult, middle aged, retired, this is the place for you. Come by yourself. Come with your friends. Come with a group. It’s for you.

Experiencia fantástica: I would highly highly highly recommend this school. I stayed for two weeks at the school and took four hours of Spanish lessons a day. My room at the school was gorgeous. Every room has its own bathroom and ac. Rooms are nicely tidied up once a day (normally when you’re in class) and fresh filtered water is also provided and refilled during that time. Magdalena and her family are incredible hosts and you can be sure that you will have a delicious breakfast every morning. This is one of my favorite places I have ever stayed at in my entire life. The classes are also phenomenal. Over two weeks I had three tutors: Sarahí, Karen, and Samara. Each tutor is immensely talented at teaching. My goal was to get better at speaking Spanish and I left feeling as though I had done exactly that. A special shoutout to Samara for all the conversations we had in my broken Spanish :) This was my first trip as a solo female traveler and I don’t think I could have chosen a better place. Oaxaca is an incredible city and it is so easy to make friends at the school. I never felt unsafe for a second. You will not regret coming here.

Experiencia fantástica: A very special place. Great Spanish instructors who will collaborate with you to find your best learning style and curriculum. One on one instruction for two hour blocks in a relaxed environment. You can stay at the school in one of the rooms and get breakfast, or stay nearby with other hosts. I stayed at the school and it was incredibly affordable, clean, and a great experience. Just a truly great vibe; Magadelena is a superior host. Special mention for my incredible (and distinctive) instructors: Cristal, Jacob, and Juan. Very different styles but so patient with me and very fun to work with. Highly recommended.

Experiencia fantástica: If you are looking for Spanish classes in an amazing environment with incredible teachers, this is your place. Lazaro has created a wonderful learning experience. I took three weeks of classes at 4 hours a day and saw a lot of improvement during that time. I plan on returning every year for at least one week. And Oaxaca is a magical city. This was my third time in Oaxaca and each time I learn and see more. I also recommend staying at the school itself Magdalen and her family are kind and caring people that make this bed and breakfast a truly enjoyable place. Thank you again to Lazaro, Silvia, Elvira, Karen Juarez, and Magdalena and her family for everything.

Experiencia fantástica: My mom and I spent a week together at the school. We were at differing levels and had different instructors. Our experience was wonderful. The teaching was tailored to our varying levels, the instructors were very nice and forgiving of our rudimentary Spanish. The school also helped us coordinate lodging, which we were pleased with. If you come, be sure to request the guided visit to the market on your final morning of classes!

Experiencia fantástica: I attended The Spanish Immersion School in both Oaxaca and Puerto Escondido in January 2024. It was a delightful experience, and I highly recommend this school! The staff and teachers are wonderful. The instruction is one-to-one. They are flexible and you can choose the length of the lessons. The school in Oaxaca offered tasty lunch options. They also had optional activities that included salsa lessons, a cooking class, and a musical concert, all of which we enjoyed. The school arranged a very affordable homestay nearby. The house was large and there were other students staying there. It was fun to have breakfast together with them. Oaxaca is an interesting, historical town with a number of excellent museums and quite a few good restaurants. The people are very friendly, and the weather in January is fabulous. The school in Puerto Escondido is near the beach. There is a swimming pool. It’s located in the laid-back surfer area of town where there are many restaurants. My friend and I had a lot of fun at these two branches of The Spanish Immersion School.

Experiencia fantástica: The Spanish Immersion School in Oaxaca was just what I was looking for. One-on-one instruction with very personable, very professional tutors. I signed up for the 4-hour/day lessons. I got 2 hours in the morning with one instructor and 2 hours in the afternoon with a different instructor. A great way to keep it interesting, I thought. The physical facility is delightful also, with a small cafe where you can get lunch between sessions if you want to.

Experiencia fantástica: Going to this school was a wonderful experience. I came as an “advanced beginner” and after two weeks, I felt so much more confident speaking to people in Spanish. I took four hours a day, which I think is the best way to do it because you get two classes a day with two different teachers, so you get a variety of teaching styles. We touched on grammar but also had conversations for most of our lessons, which helped immensely. The staff at the school were super nice and made sure you were accommodated. Every Friday they also take you to one of the markets on a field trip, which was super fun.

Experiencia fantástica: I just returned from Oaxaca where I took a week of Spanish classes at Spanish Immersion School. From the beginning I was very impressed by the responsiveness, communication and professionalism of the school. I had initially planned to take classes with a different school but had to change plans last minute due to the teacher of the first school becoming ill. Spanish Immersion School was able to accommodate me and I was able to start classes just a few days after reaching out. The school is located very close to the center and offers on-site lodging for those who are interested. They also have a small bistro offering tasty Mexican dishes. The classes are private with 1 on 1 instruction. I took two hours of Spanish class in the morning, followed by an hour break and two hours of class in the afternoon. My teachers were Kevin and Itzel. I was very pleased with both of my teachers. They were warm, engaging and genuinely interested in teaching me not only Spanish but also about the people and culture of Mexico. I greatly enjoyed my time with them and had some wonderful conversations which was my main goal during this trip. Since lessons are private they can easily be tailored to the level and interest of each student. The school was also flexible when I needed to make some changes on certain days. I recommend Spanish Immersion School and would certainly return!

Experiencia fantástica: I recently spent two weeks at the Spanish Immersion School in Oaxaca, and I can say with complete honesty that it was a fantastic experience. I was paired up with two excellent and experienced teachers, spending two hours with one each morning and two hours with the other each afternoon. The one-on-one work was incredibly helpful as I could constantly practice my conversation skills, and we could focus on areas where I needed the most work. The school is extremely well run and organized and everything went beautifully. The school did an excellent job communicating with me via email prior to my arrival and responded to all my questions quickly. I did end up finding my own lodging because my homestay was more like a room rental, and I was looking for something different, but it was easy finding what I needed nearby. The city of Oaxaca is a vibrant, colorful, lively and art-filled place with beautiful parks, museums and galeries galore, excellent cuisine, and warm, friendly people. There are also plenty of interesting side trips to do on weekends. Overall, I highly recommend the Spanish Immersion School in Oaxaca to study Spanish and to enjoy this vibrant and interesting city.

Experiencia fantástica: I highly recommend the Spanish Immersion School in Oaxaca. I took private lessons 4 hours daily for a week and improved my intermediate level Spanish. The format is one on one conversation and Jacob and Alfonso were excellent teachers . The school is located in a charming building with an interior courtyard in a nice neighborhood.

Experiencia fantástica: This was one of the best travel experiences I have ever had in my life. Everyone was so kind and welcoming. I liked the variability of the different class topics and locations. Special shout out to Magdalena and her amazing family, as well as my awesome teacher Cristal. I am definitely looking forward to coming back in the future.

Experiencia fantástica: My wife and I recently spent a week at this school -- we did three hours of class a day for five days. We each had our own private teacher (gracias maestro Kevin, gracias maestro Ruben), and the class location was wherever we wanted (a cafe, the market, the school's courtyard, the school's terrace, etc.). We found the teachers to be patient, responsive, and highly qualified. The teachers' English was flawless which helped a lot, despite the fact we were supposed to speak in Spanish only. We like the school so much, we are already planning a return trip even though getting to Oaxaca from the US Pacific Northwest is a hassle.

Experiencia fantástica: I've been to four Spanish schools in Mexico. This one offers: lessons, accomodations, excellent breakfasts and has a small cafe offering beverages and light meals. It's environment is a continuously active social setting during weekdays. The owners/hosts are gracious. All four teachers I had here we're excellent. A laundry service is in the same building. The school is isolated from the noisy tourist areas, but at the same time not a long walk to get to them. The neighborhoods in the area feel safe. Don't be afraid to park yourself here for an extended stay to enjoy this culturally packed region of Mexico. There is also a campus run by the same ownership in Puerto Escondido (which I haven't yet visited).

Experiencia fantástica: Very well organized. Amazing and friendly staff. Lazaro was quick to respond to emails with very informative details. Our family of five adults came here to learn Spanish for 3 hours every morning and went to explore Oaxaca for the rest of the day. We really enjoyed the home cooked and authentic Oaxacan breakfast every morning!! Our rooms were spacious and clean.

Experiencia fantástica: Spent two wonderful weeks in Oaxaca enjoying the culture and learning Spanish at the Immersion School. My wife was with me as well, and we both thought the school was well-run with great teachers. My days started at 9 with a 2-hour lesson. Then there was a one-hour break and from noon to 2 I had a second lesson. Often we would talk about Oaxacan culture, exploring museums, or simply sitting with a coffee and working on lessons. Highly recommend Lazaró and the school.

Experiencia fantástica: Wow! Where do I begin! I moved here having studied Spanish at the University in LA during the Pandemic, but because of ZOOM, I lacked hearing and speaking skills with 50 students in the class. I joined Spanish Immersion School after settling into my new apartment and was given the most kind, patient, and passionate instructor who I studied with for the better part of a year (I love you so much Estefania!). During my time with the school, all the instructors became friends as well as the owners. Each day I was greeted with a smile and a hello from anyone I passed by. The instruction was amazing and filled with a lot of conversation using certain grammar rules, a lot of talking, a lot of listening and over time, lessening frustration. My entire program was catered to what I needed to work on most. I love this place so much, and the people working there! One on one instrcution was exactly what I needed, and I can’t thank Spanish Immersion School enough! The instructors and owners (Lazaro and Magdalena) have become like a little family to me. I promise you will not be disappointed. The school is located in the heart of Centro with quick access to everything you want to see and do while visiting this amazing state. I live in Oaxaca so I do not have much to say about staying at the school, but I have seen the rooms and they are amazing. Sign up, and start learning. Nos vemos pronto mis amigos! Kevin W.

Experiencia fantástica: A great location -- two locations in fact, Oaxaca City and Puerto Escondido-- wonderful instructors and charming host family. I am a long-term Spanish learner here, living the good life in Oaxaca. Although I have my own apartment elsewhere in the city center now, I spent a couple months in a room at the school and had a great time. It's a good value and super convenient. I've had nothing but wonderful experiences with my instructors, the school administration and the host family. Great breakfast! Hope to see you here. Hasta entonces!

Experiencia fantástica: Excellent school and I highly recommend it. Great schools always offer great programs so what sets the Spanish Immersion School apart is the way it creates a community to support you throughout your time. My wife and I traveled to Oaxaca with our two little children and we were incredibly supported by everyone. Lázaro set us up with a spacious apartment (home stay and on-site options are also available), connected us with a great nanny to watch our kids during class time or an evening out (she even helped develop our kids’ Spanish and took them to the many children’s parks in the city), and any time something came up we always had quick and reliable help. The classes are excellent and we saw dramatic improvement in our Spanish language skills. The one-on-one format with experienced teachers allows each class to be tailored to your unique needs and areas of interest. Classes can also happen on the move as your teacher takes you beyond the tour guidebook to experience the depth and richness of Oaxaca. There are also amazing opportunities through the school like mezcal tastings with local artisans, cooking classes with the school’s incredibly talented Magdalena, fun dance classes, and more. There’s a reason why we met multiple people who come back every year to brush up on their skills and keep learning: it’s a wonderful school filled with great people who create an incredible community. Clearly, we’re big fans of the school and look forward to coming back soon. If you want to learn Spanish—whether for work or for pleasure—I know your experience at the Spanish Immersion School will be fantastic.

Experiencia fantástica: My wife and I took Spanish lessons here for 2 months. We picked the school based on the excellent Google reviews and can vouch for the accuracy of those reviews. Classes are taught one-on-one, and both our teachers, Norma and Jose (Ernesto) were fantastic. They really know how to teach Spanish to non-native speakers--our speaking and reading skills improved dramatically. In addition, the owner of the building, Magdalena, is a fantastic cook and she offers weekly Mexican cooking classes that are amazing! We had such a good time at the school, even though we didn’t live on-site (which is an option), and would highly recommend it to anyone wanting to take Spanish in Oaxaca.

Experiencia fantástica: Yesenia is a wonderful teacher. When I first met her I spoke a dozen words of Spanish. I can now carry on a basic conversation and can read and write at an elementary level. I loved exploring Oaxaca City with her.

Experiencia fantástica: Fantastic experience, not to be missed. Our teachers were absolutely delightful and so well skilled. My husband and I took the class together for the week and learned so much, laughed so much, and got quite a leg up on speaking during our month in Oaxaca. Our maestra Esteffania, who I personally came to adore, was an especially talented teacher and wonderful human being. The environment at the school was very comfortable, welcoming and relaxed as well. I'm planning on returning to both Oaxaca and this school in the future. I give this experience as many stars as can be given!

Experiencia fantástica: My experience was so fine I’m plotting a way to return in the spring. I attended for 3 weeks of instruction in November 2019. This was constructed as FIVE HOURS A DAY with 2 classes each day with one in the morning for two and a half hours and the afternoon for same amount of time. Instructors are educated to teach Spanish within an international model. All classes were coordinated between instructors. The individualized classes met my specific needs spot on! In addition, the school offers opportunities to meet the other students and it’s a great way to meet new friends from various countries. Tours to the culture rich areas outside of Oaxaca City are offered. It’s all great fun! Lazaro went out of his way to meet all of my individual needs.

Experiencia fantástica: I can’t recommend Spanish Immersion School enough. The experience they provide is beyond excellent! The community of teachers they have on staff is incredible. Though I only worked with two of their teachers, I had the privilege of listening in on some of the other lessons going on and the quality of teaching that was happening was amazing! Combined with the fact that this is one on one instruction, you are getting an incredible value for the tuition you pay. Coming in I’d like to think that I had a pretty high level of skill in Spanish, but I feel like I learned a semester’s worth of understanding in several areas of grammar in only a week. And to have the opportunity to learn while taking in the sights, the sounds, and the tastes of Oaxaca and its unique culture at the same time is an experience that you don’t want to miss! If you want to improve your Spanish (regardless of where you are on your journey) and experience another beautiful culture, you definitely must consider Spanish Immersion School for meeting your needs!

Experiencia fantástica: I only had a few hours per day for 3 days to take lessons, but Lazaro and the teacher, Leida, accommodated my needs perfectly. Lazaro answered emails promptly and clearly. Leida was superb. She was patient, extremely knowledgeable and had a good sense of humor. She speaks English very well also, which made my learning of Spanish all the easier. She listened well, and offered corrections gently and confidently when I spoke. She managed to mix teaching a chunk of grammar along with carrying on basic conversation and vocabulary development with me during each lesson. I highly recommend Spanish Immersion School.

Experiencia fantástica: I highly recommend this school for your Spanish-learning needs. I came for just a few short days in this school to take advantage of some free days on my vacation to Oaxaca, and Lazaro was very accommodating in meeting my needs with my schedule. Both of my teachers, Jacob and Estefania, were beyond great. I enjoyed my classes with them, and felt I left with an improved ability to speak and understand Spanish. They were very skilled, experienced and overall enjoyable teachers. Moreover, they went above and beyond to make me feel welcome in Oaxaca. Thanks ya'll for such a great experience!

Experiencia fantástica: Spanish Immersion School has been fantastic for improving my Spanish. The 1:1 structure with incredibly patient and sweet instructors like Marta is invaluable. Lazaro was a fantastic communicator throughout the registration process and once i arrived in Oaxaca. My homestay was the perfect arrangement and handled seamlessly by Lazaro. I can not recommend Spanish Immersion School enough.

Experiencia fantástica: Amazing place to visit and learn Spanish. My finance and I stayed at Martha's sister (Lupita)'s house and loved being able to practice our Spanish with her in the morning. The way this school works with the 'immersion' part taking you out into the city to walk around and talk Spanish, or in my case visit different cafes to learn the real basics of speaking Spanish is awesome. Super welcoming school with fantastic teachers. Highly recommend and can't wait to return.

Experiencia fantástica: Had such a great experience here in August 2018. Having a 1 on 1 teacher helping with my Spanish was so much more effective than the traditional classroom setting. I was able to fix some critical grammar errors I was using and also expanded my vocabulary. Lazaro the director was outstanding and professional and was there to assist with everything to do my visit. They really try to make it a great learning experience and culturally informative at the same time. My teachers worked my butt off and would not let me be lazy during our time together which is what I needed. I could never go back to the traditional classroom after this.

Experiencia fantástica: So happy that I chose Oaxaca City and Spanish Immersion Immersion for my latest Spanish Immersion trip. I researched many options before making my choice and very definitely the effort paid off. All of my classes were private and yet this was one of the cheapest options I considered. I've studied Spanish for years but never really broken through the "intermediate" category. Until now. Now I'm an advanced student who can carry on a conversation in Spanish for a few hours even though I still have a fair ways to go to perfection. While their private classes were perfect for my situation, I think this would also be a great way for a beginner to start learning Spanish. The teachers I had were highly educated professionals who also had the ability to draw me into conversation. The grammar lessons were seamlessly woven into the conversations - the focus was on getting you to speak and then perfecting that speech. My homestay added to the experience although for sure I knew I wasn't staying at a 5 star hotel! I was comfortable and it did give me a chance to meet other students and practice my Spanish. This school has my highest recommendation - as much as I worry that soon my teachers will be too busy to spend time with me.

Experiencia fantástica: Three of my Texas friends and I had a desire to learn some Spanish. We had started with a class at a local library, and were ready to take the next step with a week of Spanish immersion. Oaxaca was mentioned as a possibility. We started googling, and kept returning to glowing reports from past students of the Spanish Immersion School of Oaxaca. We certainly hit the jackpot! In retrospect, what a smart and perfect choice we made. We each were assigned a one-on-one teacher for our 2 hour morning class and a different teacher for our afternoon class. They each gave us the choice at the start of the class as to where we would study and work together. Some days I did a walking tour of the town and learned about their people, their history and their culture. Other days we would park ourselves in a lovely outdoor patio restaurant for a cold drink, at the library or on a quiet park bench. For me, we worked together in a different place twice a day, so I was able to learn a lot about this beautiful and quaint town (486 years old). The teachers are amazing, very personable, entertaining and extremely patient. Most are graduates (in teaching languages) from the University of Oaxaca. By the end of day 5, I had become much more confident and willing to converse in Spanish. They would gently correct my grammar, and encourage me. I will be continuing on with them via Skype lessons upon my return. Lazaro is the administrator and chief logistics person for the school He was very attentive to all the details, and making sure that they met all our expectations. The four of us stayed at Magdalena’s home (with her special family). She is connected with the Spanish Immersion School. She nurtured us that week, took care of our every need in her comfortable private rooms, and prepared a delicious breakfast every morning before class (YUMMY tamales! Or migas). Her home is charming, with delightful patios, a parrot named Chico, 2 turtles, a toucan and other critters that kept us company throughout the week. On Friday, we had a special treat as we had signed up for a cooking class with Magdalena. She took us down to the two large colorful markets and we bought the ingredients we would need to prepare her signature mole (chicken), a popular (almond based) chilled drink called horchata, and as well, we pressed and grilled our own corn tortillas on a large comal. The meal was quite delicious, if I may say so myself. We had other huge treats (happy accidents) that tambien. We happened to be there (Apr 22-29) during their big ‘Festejo de Oaxaca’ (their 486th anniversary celebrating all the traditions, cuisine, clothing, cultures of their Mexican heritage as well as the eight other regions of the state, representing tribes like the Zapotecs and the Mixtecs, to name a few. They kicked off the celebration with a very large and festive parade, called a ‘monos de calinda’ through the streets near the main Santo Domingo Plaza. This was followed by several days of a delicious culinary exposition, with 85 traditional chefs from all over their state, pigs roasting on open pits, corn tortillas and tamales being made in every booth, and tastings offered at each as you walked around. I could go on and on about our magical week in Oaxaca at the Spanish Immersion School of Oaxaca, but I can assure you all four of us cannot wait for a return visit. A sincere thanks to all the new friends we made in Oaxaca through the Spanish Immersion School of Oaxaca.

Experiencia fantástica: Where do I begin! Lázaro, The owner of this school, THANK YOU!! To all of the teachers and my personal teachers, Jacob & Luis—-THANK YOU!! Lázaro went above and beyond for me and I’ve watched him do this with ALL of the students. He started off by finding me an affordable, clean, & secure apartment near the school and then picked me up from the airport early in the morning. Lázaro was always available to help me out with anything! On my first day I was walking around the city, got completely lost on my own, and he came and picked me up! He always had social functions available for us students and cultural events planned. I was studying Spanish at his school for a full month, and felt like I was treated like a queen:) I always felt taken care, included, and also always had as much time on my own to explore as I wanted. Everyone who works at the school feels like a cozy, warm, HOME. My instructors, Jacob and Luis—-BRILLIANT teachers!!! I had 1:1 instruction from both of them 5 hours day/5 days week for a month. They both are extremely intelligent, patient, catered every class to my specific needs, understood my own way of learning and adapted my lessons to how I learn best, and made each class deeply personal, connective, enjoyable, and FUN. I honestly was blown away by how much I have learned in a short amount of time. Learning Spanish in the past, was not the easiest experience for me but I felt instantly safe, secure, and comfortable with Jacob and Luis, which allowed for me to learn an enormous amount during my month there. I had taken Spanish classes before but so much finally began making sense for me with my teachers. Also, there were also excursions and cultural experiences (optional) that the school created to be deeper immersed in the culture, the Spanish language, lifestyle, and develop stronger bonds with everyone; whether it was going to Mt Albán, Oaxacan cooking class, Day of the Dead experiences, dinners, music/dancing, laughing! Since returning back to the US, I am still continuing my Spanish classes via skype and will continue to for some time so I can continue on my Spanish learning journey. I’m returning back to Oaxaca in January and look forward to seeing everyone in person again. Not only did I receive the best of instructors in learning Spanish, I’ve also developed profound connections and friendships. I feel like I’m part of a special family. Thank you Lázaro, Jacob, Luis, & everyone at the school!! This has been and is a dream come true. I highly recommend this school to anyone wanting to learn Spanish or to strengthen your Spanish you already know:)) ❤️Janet

Experiencia fantástica: I enjoyed the personal attention... This was s my sixth immersion experience (third city, third school) and the first with all private classes. I had a great hostess and room, and Oaxaca is fascinating. The learning model is different without a schoolhouse. So, we go to museums or cafes or parks or just stay in the garden at the house for a class. One day I had mid-day comida with my tutor at one of his favorite local restaurants after we toured Monte Alban. The value is outstanding and I recommend this school and their group of teachers highly.

Experiencia fantástica: Here is the information to help decide on where and what to do. I picked this school after doing a lot of research. I spent about 6 months deciding where to attend (city), which school to attend and where to live. I went for a week and found it was not enough time to do/see/learn all I wanted to. 1st. the school. There are many many options available to choose from. Some schools provide other activities – cooking, site seeing/tours, painting and other fun interactive events. This school could set you up with some of these options but for me, I was there to learn the language. For my job, I do visit Mexico City once a week and have done a lot of those activities. You must decide the real want and need of your trip. This school provides a one-on-one curriculum and is conducted are your own pace. For the instructors, all 4 of them are great, they push you in a fun way and make sure you speak the words correctly. I have been a professional instructor in many different fields for (aviation and sports) and can honestly say that they are very professional and extremely knowledgeable instructing people in various levels of learning. I have elected to continue my training via Skype and plan on returning in the next year for more instruction. I decided I wanted to have a couple of hours each day going over grammar then the next few hours touring the City going to restaurants, food establishments… Another point to consider is if you decide to go with another school, there could be up to 9 other students in the class which limits the amount of actual time you get to respond. There were some comments from others stating that the instruction given at this school were preformed in libraries, parks and other locations. To me, this was an advantage, being in among the people and culture, interacting with the venders, waiters… and not just sitting in some classroom behind a desk but out experiencing the normal everyday life. This is why I came to Oaxaca, otherwise a person could go to a local community college back home if they don’t want to really get out there and have fun. This school does have a work book. 2nd the location. I the options ranged from Mexico City to Guadalajara, to Oaxaca… I decided on Oaxaca because of the different culture. Oaxaca is know for their 7 different mole sauces and chocolate !!!! The food was outstanding at everywhere I went, even SOME of the street venders. There is a lot to see and being right down in the middle was great, lots of galleries and some museums. 3rd the accommodations. A person can stay in a home with locals, a hostel, a hotel, rent an apartment for the month… I elected to stay in a hotel just because I wanted to feel as though I was not imposing or disrupting the family because of the various times during the night and day I would be coming and going. I feel a person would definitely get more out of the experience living with a family. I stayed at the Oaxaca Real hotel. It was safe and clean. The food was good there for breakfast. The pool is in a courtyard. The rooms is basic and NO air-conditioning. Think about that before you go because it was 90 deg everyday and I had to sleep with the window open. There is a fan above the bed but still could not sleep until 12am. I did find another hotel just by walking around. Sorry, I don’t remember the name but it was by the main church and was an old convent then a prison then a hotel. It looked great an is a 4.5 star hotel with a/c, nice outdoor pool and beautiful grounds. It was about $50 more a night than the other hotel and if I had known I would have chosen this one. The Oaxaca hotel was $74 with breakfast included. All in all this was a great experience and can’t wait to go back. As stated above, the instructors and instruction was well above average. Think about what type of accommodations you really want. Study some before you go, you will get a lot more out of the whole experience if you know some basic verbs and how to conjugate them in the present form. Good luck and have fun.

Experiencia fantástica: I recently returned from Oaxaca and 10 days of intense Spanish classes. You could say it was a crash course with 8 hours/day. Although I am still processing all that I learned, one thing is for sure... I loved both! My only regret is that I did not make this investment in myself sooner. I am a little embarrassed to admit that I have lived in Puerto Vallarta, México for more than three years and I was too busy working to really learn Spanish and converse with confidence. What makes this school different is the wonderful teachers and the flexible curriculum. The instructors are well educated and make learning Spanish fun. They tailor their instruction to your desired goal and teach in different settings. You also can stay with a host family and dine with them and practice what you learn. I chose breakfast with my host family and preferred to study on the terrace, one of many quaint cafes and the local parks. My recommendation is to be prepared in advance and share with them the subjects, phrases and words that are important to you. It would not hurt to brush up on rules of grammar if it has been awhile since you covered that important subject. My goal was to learn everything about the hospitality industry and be able to converse and write in Spanish similarly to my manner of speaking in English. I feel that what I gained is remarkable and I intend to continue to work with them via Skype and return to Oaxaca again in the near future. Muchas gracias a mis maestros... Jacob, Néstor y Lázaro! Aprender de ustedes fue una experiencia encantadora!
