Experiencia fantástica: My experience with la Casita was so positive. Before coming to Merida any communication I had with the school or questions was dealt with promptly. When arriving at la Casita for my first day I was greeted warmly . The school has such a friendly, supportive vibe. They really try to create a community within the school. I won't lie, the classes are intensive and challenging but the teachers support you and encourage you the whole way. You have to participate and put in the work and put into practice what you learn outside of the classroom to really benefit. There is a good balance of conversation/ grammar/ reading and writing. The class sizes are small so you have a lot of opportunities to interact with all your classmates. I did 2 private classes with Fernanda just to get started. Her enthusiasm and outgoing personality made me so excited to learn Spanish. I followed this with 2 weeks of group classes with Gemma. She was an excellent teacher. She really believes in her students and challenges you to do more, always being encouraging and giving positive feedback. By the end of my two weeks with Gemma, I felt I had made a lot of progress and felt so much more confident when speaking Spanish. I LOVED my classes and my time at La Casita. Muchas gracias!

Experiencia fantástica: I had a fantastic experience at La Casita. From the very beginning, they were incredibly flexible and kind, always accommodating my needs. All the teachers were great, but Fer was absolutely outstanding. I’m a language teacher myself and used to run my own ESL school in Brazil, and I can honestly say she is an exceptional teacher in every way — a great facilitator, full of positive energy, very clear in her explanations, and wonderfully creative. Karina, who handles the administrative side, is also fantastic — always kind, responsive, and patient. The location is excellent, right in the Centro of Mérida, with plenty of cafés and restaurants nearby. The facilities are comfortable and well maintained too.

Experiencia fantástica: La Casita was a wonderful place to learn Spanish! The teaching was excellent and everyone working there was very warm, welcoming and super helpful. I spent two weeks studying intermediate Spanish with Gema. She was a terrific teacher - so engaging, interesting, and super fun to learn from. The class size was small and intimate which was the perfect environment for learning, and Gema always kept the discussions lively and challenging. Loved making new friends, laughing and learning together! Made my experience in Merida so special that after I left I continued working one on one with a tutor arranged by La Casita, which I hope to continue for months to come. I'll definitely be returning next year for a whole month!

Experiencia fantástica: La Casita provided a positive experience from start to finish! My initial e-mail inquiries were with Jóse, whose messages were always timely and informative. During my three weeks' enrollment, small group classes each day augmented by 1-to-1 coaching three days per week provided an effective combination of structure and spontaneity as I progressed in my learning. Gema and Diana are wonderful, patient, and understanding teachers who challenged me to do my best!

The call was with the teacher, Fernanda. She was friendly and helpful. I did two weeks, four hours of class a day. The facility is lovely, comfortable and a great location. The classes are small allowing for a lot of interaction and practice. Fernanda was a FANTASTIC teacher. I loved the structure, the activities and also the flexibility. I highly recommend studying at La Casita.

Experiencia fantástica: My wife and I had a great experience during our 2 months of classes with our listening and speaking abilities improving immensely. We feel so much more confident when conversing with native speakers. Fernanda, our teacher, is engaging, encouraging and very knowledgeable. José, the administrator, is always friendly and responsive. Many of our classmates have become our friends. Easily the highest impact way of learning Spanish we have encountered. We look forward to continuing our Spanish journey with La Casita next year when we return.

Tomé clases grupales por 2 semanas y Gema fue nuestra maestra junto con otros 2 estudiantes. Al principio, estaba un poco preocupada porque ya sabía los temas de gramática que enseñaba en la clase, pero Gema ajustó las actividades para el nivel de cada estudiante. Gracias a su buena onda me sentí cómoda al cometer errores, así que pude practicar mucho. Gema nos enseñó no solo español sino también la cultura de Yucatán, y de todo México. Para alguien que no conocía nada sobre este país y esta región, Gema fue una guía perfecta también Gracias a La Casita, tengo más confianza al hablar español y estoy más animada que nunca a estudiar español

Experiencia fantástica: Asistí La Casita durante dos semanas incluyendo Janal Pixan (Day of the Dead). Fue una experiencia inolvidable, obviamente por la belleza de esta ciudad y las festividades, y también por la alta calidad de la escuela y su personal. En mi búsqueda a la fluidez, me animaron a tomar el curso intensivo en grupo, y esa clase sí amplió mis habilidades. De hecho, resultó agotadora para que decidí a inscribirme en clases privadas y mucho menos formales durante la segunda semana. A través de todo, José, Fernanda y todos los maestros fueron profesionales, comprensivos y sobre todo pacientes en adaptar el programa a mis necesidades. He asistido unos más escuelas por todo América Latina y muchas no me habían ofrecido ningún reto mayor. La Casita sí lo han hecho. ¡Altamente recomendada!

Experiencia fantástica: I loved my time at La Casita! I took 4 weeks of intensive classes and it was definitely worth my time. From the start, Jose was very accommodating and responsive when answering all my questions and addressing any concerns. The atmosphere of the school is great! Everyone is very warm, welcoming, and friendly which makes it so much less daunting to attempt to speak Spanish. The structure of the school works well for providing an immersive experience. I had both Gema and Fernanda as teachers and they were amazing. The classes had a good mix of grammar lessons, more structured conversation time that incorporated the grammar we learned, and opportunities to practice informally talking about our lives and subjects we were interested in. I loved that we learned idioms, colloquialisms, and practical ways to sound more natural when speaking. The classes are taught entirely in Spanish which really helped my comprehension abilities. Gema and Fernanda were very receptive to students requesting particular topics they wanted to talk/learn about and clearing up confusion and common mistakes. All my classes were small and only had between 3 and 6 students for the entire time I was there. The small class size made it significantly less intimidating to speak Spanish as someone who is more reserved. The teachers do a great job including everyone and encouraging them to speak. Moreover, the more informal and relaxed environment made the classes fun and way more entertaining than learning Spanish through rigid classes offered in universities/institutes in the US. The location of school is great and within walking distance of many cafes, restaurants, a couple museums, and a large park. Gema, Fernanda, and Jose were always willing to give recommendations about where to eat, what things to do, and where to find fun experiences in Merida. Everyone was so helpful and genuinely cared about making the experience enjoyable. I’d highly recommend if you’re looking for an immersion school in Merida.

Experiencia fantástica: La Casita est petite école à la fois professionnelle et charmante. J'y ai passé 8 semaines avec Fernanda comme professeur. L'énergie de Fernanda est incroyable, elle a un don d'animation qui nous motive à nous dépasser. Non seulement nous y apprenons la grammaire avec sa méthode adaptée mais la conversation et la culture sont aussi mises de l'avant et rendent les classes super intéressantes. Je recommande La Casita sans hésitation !

Experiencia fantástica: Spent the whole month of January at La Casita doing the intensive classes in the morning. What a great experience it was and my Spanish improved so much ! Our teacher, Fernanda, was extremely good (and patient :)) ! The program was varied - grammar of course but also plenty of conversation. José, the manager of the school was very quick in responding to all the questions I had before enrolling. Highly recommended !

Experiencia fantástica: I took the 4 week intensive as a true beginner with no history of Spanish language learning. After 4 weeks I can communicate with native Spanish speakers both verbally and through written communication. Gema was my instructor. Her style was challenging, but incredibly effective. There was a good mix of listening, speaking, reading, and writing. We were pushed to only use Spanish. My brain was tired lol, but the experience was rewarding. We met daily from 9am to 1pm with one break. Most students walked to the local cafe for break to grab a drink. The school environment was lively and positive. There were events and outings. I met up with people outside of class. There was a ton of demographic diversity. There were no more than 6-7 people in my classes at a time, but usually hovered around 5. The staff was skilled at placing students with the right group. You could always tell the teachers were assessing skill level and making changes where needed. The director, Jose, was very responsive and present via email and in person. The entire staff was responsive and accommodating. The only con was that they ran out of pineapple suckers once. 10/10 do recommend. I would definitely do it again.

Experiencia fantástica: This place is special. I looked at a number of different schools offering immersion experiences, and this one turned out to be fantastic. Jose, the director, was extremely responsive and helpful during the booking process and throughout my stay. I had two amazing teachers—Fernanda and Flor—who were friendly, helpful, knowledgeable, and full of energy and enthusiasm. Both were very responsive to my needs and learning level. Jose also arranged a home stay for me with a local family who were absolutely fantastic. Living with them allowed me to practice Spanish even further and to experience the local culture on a deeper level. The students at the school were very diverse, coming from many countries and with different life experiences. I feel very fortunate to have made a number of new friends. I really cannot say enough good things about La Casita Mérida. I had an unforgettable 4 weeks and hope to return someday.

Experiencia fantástica: My wife and I spent 3 weeks with La Casita taking the Beginner’s intensive course in the morning. Our teacher was Gema. We went from learning the alphabets on the first day to be able to read and chat in Spanish in 3 weeks (certainly with limited grammar and vocabulary). We are very happy that we decided to spend 5 mornings per week there. The time passed by so quickly as it was fun to learn with Gema and the other students. We made friends with students from other countries as well. I highly recommend spending a few weeks with La Casita when you are in Mérida if you need to pick up or brush up your Spanish.

Experiencia fantástica: I just completed a week of intensive classes (group and individual) and it was my best experience in a Spanish school (and I have attended many others in Mexico, Costa Rica, Puerto Rico, etc. ). The environment is very comfortable and welcoming and the staff (Jose and Fernanda) are always so friendly and helpful. I was particularly impressed with my teacher for the week, Diana. It was truly an enjoyable and challenging week that helped push my Spanish to the next level. Definitely, I plan on coming back.

Experiencia fantástica: We had the BEST experience at La Casita Spanish School! We did the 1 week intensive beginners class and it was fantastic. Fernanda is an incredible teacher with such great energy. At first I was a bit daunted to find out all the teaching would be in Spanish but I’m really glad it was done this way. I picked up lots more vocab and we could still ask questions in English so we could still get help if we were confused. There were also a few after class activities the school arranged including going to the Day of the dead parade and getting a local artist to come and paint our faces for the event. Overall we learnt a lot at the school and wish we could have stayed for another week. Jose, Fernanda and all the teachers were incredibly warm and welcoming. It felt like a very safe space so meant I was never shy if I made a mistake or had a question. We would highly recommend La Casita Spanish School to anyone wanting to learn Spanish in Merida.

Experiencia fantástica: I took 2 weeks of private classes with Fernanda and thought it was an awesome experience. It was a good combination of structured lessons and spontaneous conversations with little mini lessons in vocabulary and grammar. The school itself is lovely, the facilities are good and comfortable and a nice refuge from the Merida heat. La Casita also does a good job with community. Jose is really cool and friendly at the school and will organize opportunities to do social and cultural activities outside of the school. I enjoyed the experience and would recommend to anyone interested in improving their Spanish.

Experiencia fantástica: I just spent the month of September 2024 in Merida at La Casita Spanish School. I enrolled in their 4 hour daily intensive course. This was an amazing experience. Immersing myself in Spanish is the best way to learn. Fernanda is a fantastic teacher. If you don't understand something, she rephases it, writes the word on the whiteboard, illustrates it, and breaks it down until you do understand. All the employees at La Casita are kind and helpful. They engage you in conversation, getting you to practice even more! In addition to the class, on Friday we had field trips to the park, to a restaurant, and to the main plaza, where we worked on improving our Spanish while having fun. If you are looking to improve your Spanish, I can't recommend this experience enough! Además, Mérida es la ciudad más segura de México. La gente es muy amable. Hay mucho que hacer, música en los parques, comida fantástica, tiendas, vida nocturna, cultura y museos. Los fines de semana, puedes visitar la playa, las ruinas mayas, los cenotes o incluso Cancún.

Experiencia positiva: Generally speaking it’s a great Spanish school, but to make the students’ learning experience even better I would like to share some honest feedback for improvements: 1. For complete beginners classes better assign a teacher that speaks goodish English because otherwise it’s really hard for the students to understand the grammar or more complicated topics when it’s explained fully in Spanish… 2. Some subjects were not very useful or practical so might be an idea to already ask what the students expect or hope to learn from day 1 3. Drinking water is not provided and you need to pay 4. It was also abit disappointing that the last day we stopped the class 1 hour earlier to have lunch together in a very expensive restaurant with limited vegetarian options so we decided not to join… 5. A lady took lots of photos for everyone in the middle of classes but we never knew what it was for and never received any photos either Ps. We both really like Fernanda but after we had other teachers assigned the quality was definitely “less ideal” although they were very friendly teachers. We did enjoy the vibe and classrooms there :)

Experiencia fantástica: I have gone to Spanish schools in Oaxaca, Cuernavaca, Mexico City, and more and I have to say, I absolutely love La Casita! Fernanda is AMAZING! La Casita is a family business and you can feel that. For me, Fernanda is what makes the school special! She is a gifted teacher ! The school is run smoothly and is a perfect way to learn Spanish. I met quite a few travelers on my trip. I even met some who went to other highly rated schools and switched over to La Casita. I came as a solo female traveler. Maybe next time I will bring my husband and kids!

Experiencia fantástica: From first contact via email with Jose, until the final lesson with Fernanda, I had a smooth, always enjoyable, and very edifying experience at La Casita. Jose arranged and confirmed a 1:1 instruction schedule that fit perfectly with my dates and daily work schedule in Merida. He was always warm and welcoming during arrival each day. Super-instructor Fernanda had a clear game plan for my two-hour weekday lessons upon arrival for the first lesson (among other things based on a video call we had before my departure for Mexico). Her lessons were very conversational and interactive. They combined clear presentation and explanation of grammar (e.g., past tense verb conjugations), spoken practice exercises that were accessible but challenging enough to force learning and clarification. Conversation (in Spanish) about our lives, activities, academic studies, travels, etc was always woven throughout the exercises. Fernanda, thank you very much! -- even though I arrived each day after 8-9 hours of business meetings/zoom calls, the lessons with you were always fun. We laughed a lot--and so I also learned a lot. I finished the 2-week course determined to keep studying Spanish back here in Canada. Thank you again to both of you, Fernanda and Jose!

Experiencia positiva: A friend recommended La Casita to me, as he had only good things to say about the Spanish school. I booked a 3 week intensive Spanish class and was very fortunate to have Martín de Jesús as my teacher. As a teacher myself, I truly appreciated the way he made the classroom a safe and inclusive learning environment, where we felt comfortable taking chances and making mistakes. When we made a wrong conjugation, instead of telling us the answer, he would direct a question to us, so that we would have to think about what it was that we made an error on. This allowed us to self-correct our mistakes and therefore be more aware of how to correctly say the sentence. Martín made notes about which different grammar structures and verb tenses he wanted to teach each day, while still being flexible, such as if there was a concept that we needed more time understanding. When learning a language, it’s important to have a teacher who demonstrates patience, understanding and most of all the knowledge and ability to understand each of us as individual learners and what teaching style works best for us. This is exactly what Martín is able to do. His Spanish program consisted of grammar, conversation and role playing situations that further allowed us to practice the concepts taught in class. Gracias Martín de Jesús para ensenarme! Unfortunately, during my time at La Casita, I was somehow involved in a scheduling issue from the two owners José and Fernanda, in which I did not need to be a part of and this spoiled my overall experience at La Casita. I was confirmed to have classes in the morning from 9-1, but for some reason during the second week, they asked me if I could change my class to the afternoon for the third week. I also later discovered that they were going to provide me with another teacher during my last week. While dealing with this issue, José was very professional and respectful when hearing my concerns over changing my time and losing my instructor and I truly felt that he worked hard on trying to find a solution to this issue. His sister Fernanda on the other hand was very difficult and truly blew this situation up into what made it into a nightmare for me. Never would I have expected to have been aggressively confronted by her during class time and in front of my classmates and teacher over the fact that I did not want to change my class time from the morning to the afternoon and also because I wanted consistency in my learning by keeping my teacher. In addition, once a decision was made by José, that we would keep my morning class time and I would continue with my teacher, I was completely ignored by Fernanda during the rest of my time that I was at the school. It was very obvious that she refused to make eye contact with me and was the only staff member to not leave the room to come into the hallway to say goodbye to my group on the last day of classes. It’s unfortunate that I have to write this negative piece, as I never expected this to happen to me but felt it needed to be said, so that others are informed. At La Casita, there are people who deserve to be commended. Martín de Jesús as an amazing teacher, who deserves to be recognized for his abilities and José who demonstrates that he practices and follows the inclusivity and respect policy that each student is required to agree to upon signing up for the class.

Experiencia fantástica: Llegué a la escuela como un completo beginner y me voy con las bases de español, una conexión con Mérida y con gratitud al equipo de la casita. José, Fernanda, Jesus, Flor y Jal, muchas gracias. I took the 2/week classes for a month and then intensivo for another. I would recommend both structures. La Casita’s people are amazing, patient, empathetic, and fun.

Experiencia fantástica: I have had a great experience so far at this school, the course I am taking has been a total immersion course which has been challenging but you learn a lot and quickly. Additionally, the instructors are patient and helpful with any concerns someone may have. The entire staff has been very kind, great to work with, and full of helpful advice/recommendations! 10/10

Experiencia fantástica: I recently spent a week at La Casita School, and I can’t say enough good things about it. A friend and I shared a private class, and our teacher and co-owner, Fernanda, adeptly tailored the learning experience to our levels. Fernanda is one of the best teachers I’ve ever had. Though she only allows Spanish in the class, she makes it easy to understand her by using theatrical gestures, emphasis, and humor. She is also completely bilingual, so she was able to understand where we ran into problems when we tried to do some literal translations. She used our daily two hours very effectively: We covered a lot of material, but the pace was perfect, and she built in a variety of activities and oral practice into each session. The space is quaint and beautifully decorated, and the other co-owner is one of the nicest people you’ll ever meet: it was great to be greeted with his huge smile each day, and he went way out of his way to help a third person in our group who was feeling ill. Also, the location is perfecto for anyone staying near the historical district: we were able to walk to class every day, getting a wonderful breakfast on the way. I spent a week at another Spanish language school in Guatemala last year, and while that was an interesting cultural experience and I learned some Spanish, the class at La Casita was much more effective in terms of learning the language. I also came away with strategies and content provided by Fernanda to continue learning outside of the classroom. I truly feel that you cannot go wrong if you choose this school, and it feels wonderful to support a family business run by such sweet, smart, and fun people.

I had taken some Spanish classes before, so wasn’t an absolute beginner, and felt that I was perfectly placed in a class with two other students. Our teacher, Jesús, was excellent and created an environment where we felt comfortable asking questions and making mistakes. His colleagues, José and Fernanda, were so helpful in coordinating the class for me, giving recommendations while in Mérida and helping me have “real” conversations outside of class. I learned so much in such a short time. All in all it was a great experience and I look forward to returning!

Experiencia fantástica: I spent a total of five weeks at La Casita as part of an educational work program with the intensive course in the morning and private classes in the afternoon. And all I can say is that it was a wonderful time! Fernanda and Diana are amazing teachers! The classes were highly engaging with a focus on getting you to talk and become more confident in everyday Spanish. There were plenty of social events for students to learn more about Mexico, experience the local cantinas, or taste some delicious Mezcal. Classes are usually mixed age with interesting people from all around the world who quickly became great friends. The school is conveniently located close to Paseo Montejo and Parque la Plancha, which invites for a stroll after class. The school also has a beautiful backyard for outside classes or some relaxation in the afternoon. The booking process was also smooth and uncomplicated. As José is always there for you and ensures that everything works smoothly.

Experiencia fantástica: Martin was an excell teacher. I learned a great deal during my week with him. He encoraged me to study more on my own, watch movies in Spanish, listen to Spanish radio and most important to talk with Spanish speaking people. Experiencia fantástica: Jose was great to work with when I was trying to figure out what class to take and the new facility is very comfortable and the tech is great. I ended up taking a four week intermediate class that met MWF from 4 til 6. There were only two others in the class so we got a lot of individual attention and time to speak. Fernanda is an excellent teacher and made the lessons lots of fun with her amazing energy and sense of humor. My brain was tired at the end of each class but that was a good thing!

The teachers are amazing and extremely helpful when it comes to any recommendations you may need during your stay! Experiencia fantástica: Fantastic experience taking intensive classes here. It’s tough to research a language school because so many reviews talk about how fun it was or the great cultural experience, which is great and important, but it’s tough to get a read on how effective the teaching is. But thankfully I made the right choice with La Casita! The classes are small and the instructors are excellent. Classes are tailored to the students and include foundational work, fun activities, and practical application. My instructor keyed in on my specific difficulties and gave me work sheets and info to improve. And all the fun and cultural stuff is here too! Plus at a reasonable cost. Highly recommend.

Experiencia fantástica: This is the third year I’ve enjoyed taking classes at La Casita Spanish School. The classes are small and tailored to the ability of the students. The materials are instructive. The teachers and program are fun and challenging. The instructors have what I consider to be a unique philosophy to learn Spanish. Once you walk through that front door, you are expected to speak Spanish regardless of your ability, and the staff always provides constructive and friendly feedback. There’s a reason I keep returning.

Et que dire de notre professeure Fernanda. C’est une pédagogue fort sympathique qui nous offre un apprentissage adapté à chacun.e et tout ça dans le plaisir du partage avec les autres. My teacher Flor was very good and besides we learned and practice a lot of Spanish, we also had a lot of fun. And beside the 4 hours of class a day, we all did activities together after school.

Experiencia fantástica: I had an incredibly productive and enjoyable 2 weeks taking group intensive Spanish courses at La Casita in Mérida. Professora Fernanda is an exceptional teacher with a rare combination of energy/enthusiasm and patience/empathy. She adapts her curriculum to the group, combining exercises, games, lectures and discussion fully in Spanish. I’ve made much more progress in two weeks than I expected, partly thanks to the several hours of conversation I’ve had to partake in during class. I’ve learned to express myself in the past, present, and future tenses, have improved my grammar and grown my vocabulary immensely. I still have a long road ahead to fluency, but these two weeks have gotten me over the hump I need to continue practicing on my own with Spanish speakers. Experiencia fantástica: LA CASITA is truly the best! We had an amazing 3 weeks practicing and learning Spanish with Fernanda. The classes were structured with intention and very organized, you are scaffolded and supported well, and learning happened really naturally. Fernanda was very open to hearing and adjusting to what we wanted to learn, and I could tell that she was good with identifying our "struggle" areas and planning lessons that were responsive to what we needed - the mark of a great teacher! We felt like we were in a safe space to practice and try with Fernanda. Classes were immersive and ~fun! I looked forward to class everyday. We chose this school because we read online that La Casita Spanish School is the first educational institution to obtain the "Queer Destinations" certification - that is SO cool and special. The whole LA CASITA family is really caring and supportive - you can tell there is a lot of love and care put into La Casita; we definitely felt it. From first booking our classes to the very end of our trip, José and everyone there communicated with us and helped us with recommendations around the city, places to say, just overall making sure we were having a great and enjoyable trip. Very pleased with it all; they accommodated that the first group I was with wasn’t a good fit (so moved me to Gema’s class), and she was a great mix of patient and challenging. Only 2 other students so lots of personal attention. My Spanish improved a lot! Highly recommend.

Experiencia fantástica: Cannot recommend La Casita highly enough! The immersive class was the perfect addition to my first week in Mérida. Every staff member is so kind and helpful, and the classes hit a perfect balance between being challenging and really quite fun. I will definitely be back for more courses to keep improving my Spanish next time I visit the Yucatan. (Also the space is so charming- a great place to sit during the hot, hot days of Mérida spring).

Experiencia fantástica: I fell in love with this school! The school itself is very cozy with photos all around, water for the students and wc. José tells you all about schedules, prices and so on (I’m a very picky person and ask a lot of questions - but he gave me all the answers!). Fernanda is an amazing teacher! So cheerful and friendly, always will help with questions, give example and “dance” if needed ))) I really want to mention some disadvantages to make this a balanced review, but there none. I recommend this place with all my heart!

Experiencia fantástica: I had a wonderful experience studying Spanish at La Casita. Jose was great to communicate with and helped me get into the classes I wanted. Gema is a fantastic and very creative teacher. I really liked the variety of activities she included in our lessons (board games, videos, songs), not just grammar and vocabulary. Gema spoke very distinctly and slowly, and was very patient with us. I enjoyed taking the small group classes because I always learn a lot from my fellow students.

Experiencia fantástica: We were rusty intermediate speakers and took a 20 hour class with Fernanda (four hours for five days!). She was lovely, encouraging, fun and a VERY good teacher. The school is welcoming, comfortable, visually appealing, and provides an overall positive experience. We worked hard and were proud of the strides we made in one week—awakening our ear to the language. Our comprehension improved a lot, as well as our handle on past tense, and our confidence, making for more natural conversations. Fernanda clearly adjusted the class daily to meet our needs. It was a very individualized class!

Experiencia fantástica: Learning Spanish at La Casita was a wonderful experience. The school and the classrooms were comfortable and clean. We looked forward to class every day and I cried on the final day knowing our time was over. My husband and I, both retired senior travelers, wanted to be able to engage in conversational Spanish, not just travel lingo, like ... Where is the bathroom? So, we knew that in the 4 weeks we were going to be taking classes in Mérida, we needed to get a good base to build upon, including some grammar. BUT ... we only wanted to put in 2 hours of classroom time and we wanted it to be fun! After evaluating several schools, José, the owner, coordinated a custom schedule of semi-private classes (2 students/1 instructor) that was perfect for us. Our instructor, Fernanda, was organized, professional and FUN! Even though we were at slightly different levels, Fernanda adjusted the lesson plans to facilitate our needs. La Casita is a small school with a great staff that is flexible enough to adjust for your personal needs. We would definitely recommend La Casita for your learning experience.

José put all his heart in this school and you can feel that in every corner of the school. We had an immersive course with the fabulous Diana, who was a brilliant, attentive teacher who helped improve our Spanish a lot during just 2 weeks. The school is close to lots of great cafes, bars and the centre and Jose and the rest of the team are great. The school environment is nice, chilled, comfortable. It was perfect.

Experiencia fantástica: I just want to say I researched 3 schools in Merida before deciding on La Casita. One school was double the price, one couldn’t supply a teacher for all the days I wanted etc. But Jose the director was super keen to please and had me in a class the following day. The school has a positive atmosphere and I felt happy and helped in my desire to learn. They have both private and group classes. I concentrated on private as I wanted to study grammar but I highly recommend signing up with a group or as a group if you want to practice speaking and also to connect with others. So thanks Jose, the director, and Fernanda, one of my teachers, and Gemma, another of my teachers. You all feel more like my friends than my teachers now that it’s over.. Experiencia fantástica: I took two weeks of classes here as a part of a bigger 5 week trip to Yucatán. It was a great way to review my Spanish and feel confident speaking and reading it. I loved the small group classes and the teachers and games.

Prof Diana worked with them in class and Francisco took them to local museums/sites. My kids could be cranky about going to school in summer, but the teachers were patient and professional.

The school it's itself is very welcoming and friendly. You are greeted warmly and the team are always willing to help with anything you may need. My teacher, Fernanda, is amazing - and a very patient and intuitive teacher, with a great sense of humour. I was immediately put at ease, which made contributing to lessons in Spanish a lot easier. Highly recommend for travelers who want to launch their trip in Mexico/Latin America. The staff are so helpful and friendly, they went above and beyond to help me with all things Mexico, from culture to food, to places to stay and sights to see. I took group classes the first month, and private classes the second month. I preferred private classes, as it gave me more direct time forced to speak and listen in Spanish. Group classes were also great, as you get to know other people from different parts of the world. Highly recommend!!

Experiencia fantástica: I absolutely loved my week long class with La Casita in Mérida! The responses to emails were super quick, payment was easy, the assessment call about my level was fun. The classes were exactly tailored to my wishes and really helped me improve my level, grammar, and knowledge about Mexican as well as Mayan culture. I always left with a smile :-). I had one-to-one lessons with Francisco (who was superpassionate about teaching, had studied teaching Spanish for adults, really patient, and also spoke great English we could fallback to) and based on my wishes, we explored the city and held classes in a different café every day. I can HIGHLY recommend this Spanish school :-).

Experiencia fantástica: Came to Mexico and Mérida was my second stop, I had zero Spanish knowledge and some of my roommates in the hostel where I was staying were taking a one month intensive course and decided to give it a go. From the very first moment I walked in the school I felt a very chill and friendly environment and the teacher that I had was so pacient and always explained everything in a very easy way. At the I'm moment taking online classes with them and it's pretty much the same experience the one on one course is very affordable and can achieve so much in a month because they adapt completely to your needs the course. Thanks to all the friendly staff and I hope to come back soon to the face to face classes.

I'm so lucky I found this Spanish school during my 3 week trip to Mérida - they became my go-to group when it came to going out in the city or if I needed practice with my Spanish. They're some of the friendliest people I've come to know and love & will go above & beyond when it comes to helping people who are lost, don't speak Spanish, or simply need an amigo or two to hang out with. Honestly, they became one of the highlights of my trip & I hope I can return to Mexico to see them soon!!!

Teachers are really patient with you and always know what exercises can improve your Spanish skill. More importantly, very funny and interesting! I only knew verrrryyyyy little Spanish before but after studying here for 6 weeks, slowly but I can express my feelings and understand what's been said. I can talk with locals and make friends easily :) 120% recommended to visit here and learn Spanish first if you are planning to travel around Mexico or all around Latin america because first you'll make many friends at school and they can give you great advises of what to do and second you'll make more friends with locals while traveling if you can speak their language. More than a school you also make friends thanks to all the extra school activities taking place in the afternoon or for the night. I stayed at the guesthouse which is really cool, clean and there is a swimming pool to enjoy the hot afternoons in Mérida. At this school they have very small intimate classes that really focus on developing each student. I also attended various after-school events such as language exchanges, movie nights, city tours and even a karaoke night! The location was perfect for me as its less than 10 minutes to walk from the centre, my classes were from 9am-1pm leaving the rest of the day to myself. Couldn't be happier with both the school and the staff! Highly recommended

The classes are intensive but lots of fun, and it was a great chance to learn the basics for getting around and making conversation, for a total beginner like me! Merida is a wonderful and alive city, la casita is the perfect place to find good friends and learn Spanish having fun! All the staff is really prepared especially the teacher. It was difficult to leave at the end. I Highly recommend to anybody that want to learn Spanish and have a nice time with other people from all over the world
