Nuestro comentario desde StudyLanguages sobre Spanish in the City Language School:

Experiencia fantástica: I took Spanish in the City’s B2 level classes for a month and had an excellent experience. I live in Condesa, so the location was perfect—easy to attend the 4-hour daily classes (Monday–Friday, 9 a.m.–1 p.m.) without a long commute. I heard about the school through word of mouth and chose it over CEPE near Copilco, which would’ve meant an hour-long commute each way. My main teacher was Omar, and I really enjoyed his method—he encouraged full immersion in Spanish throughout the entire class and created a comfortable environment for conversation and learning. Our group was small (2–3 students) and around my age (30), which made discussions engaging and balanced. Advanced levels tend to have fewer students, but teachers can rotate weekly depending on new enrollments. Each Monday, the teacher sends the week’s itinerary with the cafés and parks you’ll visit. There’s no physical classroom—classes are held entirely in cafés and parks. The furthest spots we went to were Bellas Artes, Coyoacán, and UNAM, which made for a nice variety of environments. You’re expected to order at least something small at each café. The first two hours focus on grammar; the last two on conversation. The school also provides a notebook and pen on your first day. In four weeks of B2, we covered Presente and Imperfecto del Subjuntivo, Imperativo, Subjuntivo Perfecto, and plenty of vocabulary and colloquial expressions used in CDMX. The higher levels use only Spanish, while lower levels may occasionally use English for clarification. For the price, the experience is definitely worth it. Most students are travelers, with the occasional person living in Mexico City long term like me. The Good: Convenient Condesa location Excellent value for small-group lessons Omar was a fantastic teacher—friendly, patient, and effective. I had Adrian for 1 day and he were great too. Everyone has their own styles of teaching and you can't go wrong with anyone here. Gustavo, the co-owner and main contact, was great to work with and very flexible when I had to make up a missed day Room for Improvement: Some topics repeated from prior weeks Mixed-level groups can slow progress for stronger students Weekly group changes can be a bit disruptive, though my group mostly stayed consistent Overall: Like any school, your experience depends on your teacher and classmates. If you take the class seriously, participate actively, and study outside of class, you’ll get a lot out of it. Tips: Don’t use Google Translate for the placement quiz—be honest so you land in the right level Use flashcards (Quizlet, etc.) to reinforce vocabulary Practice speaking after class while you’re “warmed up” Expect some mental fatigue at first—it’s normal Ask lots of questions and stay engaged Spanish in the City is a great option for anyone wanting a fun, conversational, and immersive way to improve their Spanish in CDMX. Update: I did another 4 weeks with Spanish in the City. This time I was enrolled in C1 and had Omar for 1 week. We ended up reading literature and having very deep discussions throughout the week. He tailored it to my goal of being able to flow in Spanish without pausing. The next two weeks I had Brenda. She was awesome as well. It seems like you can't go wrong with any teachers here. Her strengths were that she provided solid handouts to learn grammar and then we practiced it as we learned it. She gave me tips on how to improve my Spanish once she noticed a few things during conversations and my writing/homework. The discussion portion of the lessons were also great. She's very well prepared in her lessons. I think C1 is the highest level this school has, so I found that there were more students in this level than B2. These students had various levels of Spanish (1-15 more years than me) which motivated me to improve. The only issue was everyone spoke so fast and could speak rapidly in the discussion part of the class, that I felt like I couldn't really talk as much as them, although Brenda did a good job asking me questions when I didn't really participate.

Experiencia fantástica: Brenda is the best! Had a level C1 group class with her that was so helpful to review high level grammar and to practice conversation. Had a 1:1 class with Omar as well that was so wonderful. The organization is so organized and flexible. 10/10 would recommend.

Experiencia fantástica: I’m an advanced-level Spanish student and I just finished a week of group and individual classes with Spanish in the City. This is my 11th experience doing an immersion in a Spanish-speaking country and this is among the best that I have attended. The education model they have developed is very practical and focused on individual needs. My two professors were outstanding, Brenda and Claudia, both highly skilled and creative with managing the dynamics of students with different backgrounds and abilities. I have acquired fond memories of my time here in Mexico thanks to this progressive school. I will definitely come back.

Experiencia fantástica: I did two weeks of intensive group classes with Brenda and had a great experience. :) I started at level A0 and although it seemed overwhelming at first, I felt like I was able to learn a lot and I developed a good understanding of the basics. Brenda explained everything in an easy to understand way, and she also made the class very fun and relaxed! I would recommend :)

Experiencia fantástica: Brenda was an amazing teacher! I had so much fun in her class and really feel like I improved in the short time I was in the class. Spanish in the City is a great time and if you want to really improve your Spanish, this is the place.

Experiencia fantástica: I moved to Mexico knowing almost no Spanish. I began at Spanish in the City at the level of A-0. Over the past 6 months, I have been with the school, I have worked with nearly every instructor and I can confidently say this school is special. There is so much care and attention given to each student, and each teacher is committed to the success of their students. The group classes are engaging and I found myself looking forward to class every day. Today I am at the level of C-1 and I am confident this couldn't have happened so quickly and so enjoyably at any other school. Beyond the classes, I found a wonderful learning community in the city that has helped me grow my knowledge of Spanish as well as my cultural knowledge of Mexico. Thank you Spanish in the City!

Experiencia fantástica: I had an amazing week with Spanish in the City, and I'm bummed I couldn't spend more time in class this time around. My group teacher, Brenda, was absolutely phenomenal in introducing difficult grammatical topics and also bringing interesting discussion topics. I also had super fun and engaging individual sessions each day with Omar, who was great at getting me to talk about things I'd never discussed in Spanish before! I love the structure of going to different parts of the city each day too. I can't wait to return and hopefully do another session with the school!

Experiencia fantástica: I had extremely helpful 1:1 lessons with Octavio! She was patient, explained everything well, and I definitely feel like my Spanish improved. It was also nice to meet at different cafes and you can’t beat the price of this school. :) Gracias por todo Octavio!

Kai Walsh Publicada en Google 3 months ago

Experiencia fantástica: Big fan of the format: half in a coffee shop, half in a park. Omar is the best teacher! Very impressed by his ability to take a group of A0 spanish and facilitate so much conversation—very patient, attentive, and you can tell that he loves what he does. Highly recommend checking this school out!

Experiencia fantástica: I’ve been learning Spanish on and off for the last 6 years and I am SO happy I took classes with Spanish in the City. Claudia was my teacher and in just one week she taught me more about subjunctive than I’ve learned in the last 6 years combined. Such a great price for the quality! I loved having the classes in cafes and parks, it helped hold my attention more than a typical classroom. I will definitely take another week of classes next time I visit Mexico City.

Andrew Jones Publicada en Google 3 months ago

Experiencia fantástica: Absolutely incredible experience with Spanish in the City. I came in at A2 level (after using Pimsleur) and by the end of the week I was able to have an entire dinner with a friend in Spanish. It is the right blend of good vibes for travelers (meeting at a coffee shop, sitting in a park) and actual learning. There was structure and focus but also fun. I highly recommend this course. I only did one week and it was completely worth it—I wish I could stay and do more.

Jason Runkel Publicada en Google 3 months ago

Experiencia fantástica: Everything I expected and more! Claudia was a great and patient teacher who tailored the class specifically to help us the most! And it was cool to go to different places around the city for each class! Would highly recommend!

Experiencia fantástica: I took Spanish classes for two weeks with Brenda. It was an amazing experience. My Spanish improved so much in a short time. Brenda is a very good teacher. I would highly recommend this school in general and especially Brenda.

Experiencia fantástica: A wonderful experience. My professor, Carmen had a great capacity to explain nuances. The division between a 2 hour session in coffee shops in various neighborhoods and 2 hours in a nearby park works well. Ive been to language schools in various cities and this is one of the best.

Experiencia fantástica: Brenda was a great teacher, her classes were not only informative and grammar focused in order to improve our accuracy, but also extremely interesting, involving current and relevant themes which i really enjoyed.

Experiencia fantástica: I had a really good experience at this Language school. The teachers and the owner were super nice and made it a really good experience. I really enjoyed that wie studied in parks and cafes in different areas of the city. I learned so much in one week. I had the feeling to be challenged the right amount by the teacher. They definitely know how to teach a language. Thank you so much for this nice experience. It was a perfect first week in cdmx :)

Koh Kim Publicada en Google 3 months ago

Experiencia positiva: I was between A1 and A2. I took the A2 group classes first. The group tutoring sessions are long, and the chosen cafes had uncomfortable seating for long periods. The four hour period is divided between grammar in the first two hours and the application of that in reading, writing, speaking and listening in the next two hours. The grammar was boring and could’ve been shortened. I do wish the tutors provided agendas of what would be learned that week on the first day of the week. The second half of class is usually a walk to nearby park then sitting on park bench. Based on my goals, I opted to switch to 1:1 tutoring halfway with a focus on conversation. This was significantly more valuable. It was nice of the school to switch my remaining group class time to private tutor sessions. However, I did find it difficult to coordinate with them with spotty response times over Whatsapp. Note that i did do this during the christmas holiday week, so the longer response times may be due to that. For group class, I consider this average, but the private tutors are well-trained and prepared.

Experiencia fantástica: I had a great experience at Spanish in the City. I took lessons for a week and a half. I gladly would have stayed longer! My teacher Adrián was fantastic. He was very clear and organized at explaining grammar. I especially enjoyed the conversational part of the lessons. We talked about a wide range of topics. The conversations were genuinely enjoyable and I felt like they really pushed me to express myself more precisely in Spanish. I left much more confident in my Spanish abilities.

Experiencia fantástica: The beginner class that I took was phenomenal. Omar is a truly gifted teacher— he was able to communicate with us almost exclusively in Spanish from the very beginning in a way that we could all somehow understand. The 4 hours each day flew by, and I enjoyed meeting in different cafes (very civilized to learn grammar over breakfast) and visiting various parks. I was very sorry not to be able to stay for another week and continue my studies, but hoping to return!

Experiencia fantástica: Top notch ! Overall a great experience , high quality lessons delivered by excellent friendly teachers comprising everthing from nitty gritty grammar to everyday conversation. Plus the added bonus to get to experience a variety of interesting locations around the city . I would unreservedly highly recommend this school to anyone wishing to have a good time while seriously improving their Spanish.

Experiencia fantástica: I spent a week here refreshing my Spanish (B2) and had an incredible time. The experience was fully immersive, with everything in Spanish, and the structure was perfect: 2 hours of grammar + 2 hours of conversation each day. The classes were small and took place in cafés and parks around different parts of CDMX, so you get to explore the city and absorb the culture (and food!) as well as learning the language Claudia in particular was amazing! She was passionate, fun, and genuinely dedicated. She always came well prepared, explained things clearly, and was happy to answer any random doubts or questions that came up. She made the learning feel relaxed and enjoyable while still pushing us to improve. I feel so much more confident speaking after just a week and had a lot of fun doing it! Highly recommend!

Experiencia fantástica: I studied Spanish with yazmine for one week on individual lessons. And it was incredible. Yazmine is such a good teacher. Experiencia fantástica: honestly, this has been one of the nicest ways I’ve ever studied a language. first couple of hours we’d meet in a cosy café somewhere in the city — Condesa, Roma, random little spots — and go through grammar in a way that didn’t feel heavy at all ☕️ then we’d move outside for another two hours: a park, a museum, just walking and talking. it keeps things fun, and you never get that “sitting at a desk forever” feeling I had Claudia for the whole month of November, and we clicked right away. she’s easy to talk to, super fun (y chismosa también jajaj), and somehow makes grammar feel less painful pretty sure we’ll stay in touch after this. if you want Spanish to feel natural and part of your day-to-day life in CDMX, this is a really good place to start

Experiencia fantástica: I worked with Octavio for in-person Spanish lessons, and I couldn’t be happier with the experience. She was always well-prepared, punctual, and professional, and her ability to explain concepts clearly made a huge difference in my progress. In just a couple of weeks, I felt a noticeable improvement in my Spanish—both in confidence and understanding. Octavio creates a comfortable learning environment and tailors the lessons to your needs. I truly appreciate her dedication and teaching style. I highly recommend her to anyone looking to improve their Spanish quickly and effectively.

Experiencia fantástica: Great school with great teachers. The idea of meeting in a different cafe every morning may seem a bit odd but it actually works out really well - both because of the casual setting and also because you get to explore different neighborhoods of the city. It's also nice to not be sitting at a desk for 4 hours. Brenda and Yasmin were terrific teachers. Definitely will sign up again when next in CDMX.

Experiencia fantástica: Spanish in the City is an outstanding program, and my experience there was exceptional. Carmen Yol-Kin Hernandez is a phenomenal tutor who is deeply knowledgeable, patient, and skilled at making the language engaging and accessible. I learned so much from her that I extended my trip just to continue studying with her. This was one of the most meaningful learning experiences I have ever had. I recommend both the school and Carmen without reservation, and I will always be thankful for my time there.

Experiencia fantástica: I really enjoyed my experience in the school mainly because of Lola who is my A1+ class teacher. She was patient, friendly, kind and professional, very very good at what she does. We covered a lot of grammar and practiced with games and speaking. Each day we spend 2 hrs in a cafe and another 2 hrs in a park. The week ended with a museum visit.

Experiencia fantástica: I had such an amazing experience with Spanish in the City. Everyone was very welcoming and accommodating. If you need to switch classes levels, they are super understanding. My teacher, Lola, was so fun and willing to answer any questions we had - even if it was off topic from the lesson. I learned so much from her and would highly recommend her as a teacher if you’re looking to learn the language.

Experiencia fantástica: Class was great and I learned a lot my only regret is that I didn’t have time for more than a week. My teacher was amazing and the choices of cafes and parks for hosting were very good picks. For someone that doesn’t really like sitting in a classroom this was a method that appealed to me much more.

Experiencia fantástica: I had the best experience during my 4 weeks of classes here. As someone who has spent many many hours in Spanish classes throughout my life, I loved the "real life" setting and being out in the city conversating in casual Spanish and learning about its culture while also being exposed to new grammar concepts. It was truly the best of all worlds! Throughout my time I had classes with Omar, Ana, Adrian, and Claudia and every single one of them was great. They all had different teaching styles and strengths but I appreciated learning from each of them and had wonderful conversations with all of them and my classmates! Thank you Spanish in the City! I hope to be back one day to continue my studies with y'all

Experiencia fantástica: It was my first time in CDMX, first time doing a full time immersion, and first time working with Spanish in the City : it's been all around an amazing experience! From the organization beforehand with Gustavo, to my actual lessons with my tutors, Ana and Brenda, I had a lot of fun learning Spanish while visiting different zonas and beautiful sites, eating out at cafeterías, etc. I think their method works well, you pass a test beforehand and get assigned to a small group of your level; it worked really well with our groups. Thanks again to the whole team for an unforgettable time, I'll see you guys again very soon! Abrazos

Experiencia fantástica: I really appreciated my 4 weeks here for how much it helped my Spanish and what I learnt of the city. I had Omar as my teacher - he’s got a lot of knowledge to share as well as an ability to generate interesting and fun conversations even while we were grappling with the language.

Experiencia fantástica: This experience was the best. I booked only one week, but I wish I had stayed longer. Everyone I met through the school was really nice, which shows the type of people who go on these courses. Whilst everyone had different reasons for being there and learning Spanish, our experience was enhances most by Alonso, who bought a creating and fun element to each class. I'm very glad that he was out tutor. He never said no to any question asked, even if it was off topic or a bit advanced for the level and he always made sure to give real life examples and contextualise stuff. On top of the curriculum, Alonso ensured we knew some slang and understood colloquialisms and idioms to enhance our time in Mexico. Other than the great teaching, I like the fact that the classes are half in a cafe and half in a park, somewhere different everyday, so not only do you get variety, you get to understand the city a bit better! The only thing I would say is that the optional tours seem expensive to me, and be mindful that you're pretty much expected (by the cafe not the school) to buy 2 drinks each day so you can add the price of this on to what is a very economical class price. I would say to anyone that will be here more than a week to add SITC to your itinerary, you won't regret it!

Experiencia fantástica: In September 2025, I had the chance to attend three weeks of the Spanish course offered by the school, progressing from a complete beginner level to A2. Among the various language school experiences I've had so far, this might be the best one for many reasons. The format itself is truly engaging and unique: each lesson is split into a two-hour grammar session in a cozy café and a conversation/active language practice session in parks or museums. This way, you get to explore the city, and particularly Condesa, Roma, but also Polanco, the Centro Historico and Coyoacan, while learning — without the indoor atmosphere of a traditional classroom. Classes are very small, maximum 7 students, which helps you get more involved in the activities and really makes you an active part of the lesson. The teachers are incredibly well-prepared, academically trained linguists with a solid background in teaching Spanish to foreigners. I was lucky enough to have Jazmin as my maestra, and I could honestly dedicate this entire review just to her. She truly became a friend to me and my classmates — not only was she an exceptionally clear and kind teacher, but she also devoted her free time to us. We used to have lunch together after class and even spent evenings and weekend afternoons as a group. For example, we went together to the Grito celebration at the Zócalo on the 15th of September — the famous Fiesta Patria! Thanks to her, we got to enjoy and understand the culture of the city and the country on a much deeper level, but also had the chance to build up very nice friendships as a group. So, 5/5 for Spanish in the City — and even more for Jazmin ❤️ Emanuele Castoldi

Experiencia fantástica: These classes are a great way to learn Spanish. Classes are very small so you get very personalized feedback from the teachers. Alonso was a great teacher for the B2 level, took time to explain grammatical concepts to us and brought thought-provoking discussion prompts to class. I especially enjoyed the Friday museum trip as teachers Alonso and Ana were very knowledgeable about the murals and history of San Idelfonso. You learn not just the language but also a lot about Mexican culture and history!

Experiencia fantástica: I took 6 weeks of classes with Omar and he’s the best teacher! The classes are extremely engaging and four hours everyday just fly by. Omar comes to each class very well prepared and explains all concepts very clearly. The conversation portion of the class is also very interesting and empowers us to discuss complex topics. I feel way more confident speaking and understanding Spanish by the end of my classes. The locations of the classes are also great - we visited so many different areas in the city that I wouldn’t have thought of visiting had it not been for the class. And many delicious food excursions too! Great memories - thanks again Omar and Spanish in the City!

Experiencia fantástica: I took the course at Spanish in the city for a week and it was a great experience. My teacher Claudia was patient, interested and involved. Her lessons were interesting and fascinating. Really super! The concept also appealed to me: first 2 hours of grammar in a cafe and then 2 hours of conversation in a park where you had playful exercises. As a result, it was never boring and I had a lot of fun. Thank you very much Claudia and see you next time. Warm greetings from the Netherlands. Karin

Experiencia fantástica: Learning with Alonso from Spanish in the City has been such a great experience. His classes are always fun and super practical, and he has a way of explaining things that finally made tricky grammar points click for me. I used to mix them up all the time, but now I feel much more confident. Thanks to his guidance my Spanish has improved so quickly, and I actually enjoy studying it. I couldn’t recommend him and the school more! Add-10.3: I also took class with Omar. He’s super funny and makes the class really enjoyable, so the 4 hours just fly by. His lessons are very well organized, and he has a way of explaining complicated things really clearly in a short time. He also knows a lot, especially when it comes to grammar, and he’s always very patient when answering questions. I’ve had a lot of fun learning with him and I’m definitely planning to come back for more classes with him in the future.

Experiencia fantástica: I took five weeks of lessons with Spanish in the City and can safely say I will be returning when I am back in Mexico City! I studied with Alonso, who was incredibly warm, engaging and informed, and who always took the time to clearly explain more difficult topics. The topics of discussion were always relevant to what was going on in Mexico or the world at the time, and allowed us to greatly improve our vocabulary and engage in more complex discussions in spanish. I had a great time learning from with Alonso! Enrolling in these classes was also a great way to see more of Mexico City (parks, museums, etc.) and to connect with people from all over the world, who I have since become friends and travelled in Mexico with (and with who I can continue to practice my spanish!).

Experiencia fantástica: I had a fantastic experience during my 4-weeks of immersion classes at Spanish in the City. I want to specifically mention my amazing teachers, Claudia and Yazmin! Their passion and dedication to their students truly stood out. Their lessons are well-prepared and dynamic which made each session interesting and enjoyable. Since starting the classes, my confidence and proficiency in Spanish have grown tremendously. I’m already looking forward to enrolling in more immersion courses later this year. Whether you’re visiting CDMX or settling here long-term, I wholeheartedly recommend Spanish in the City for an exceptional language-learning experience!

He made the classes really engaging and fun, using interesting exercises and leading us in conversation about things that matter to us. I would highly recommend him and Spanish in the City if you want to take your Spanish to the next level.

Experiencia fantástica: I took 4 weeks of classes and went from 0 to A2 / close to B1 (granted my bit of Italian helped a bit). Jasmin is not only an amazing teacher, but also very sympathetic person. She understands very well how to teach spanish to foreigners. There should be a museum every friday!

Experiencia fantástica: I recently completed six weeks at Spanish in the City and found it extremely interesting and enjoyable. The format of the lessons was 2 hrs in the morning in a cafe and 2 hrs in a local park each day in a different neighborhood in the city. This was great for me as I got to explore a different place each day and by the end of my 6 weeks I felt I knew a lot of the areas of the city. The school places you in groups of people of a similar level and throughout my time at the school I met lots of really interesting people from all walks of life. Special thanks to my teacher Lucia who was amazing. Her teaching style was clear, patient and very personable. Her lessons were very interesting and she enabled a safe space to make mistakes. I learned so much in six weeks and my Spanish has improved immeasurably.

Experiencia positiva: I had classes with Alonso and he is a great and enthusiastic professor. The classes were thorough and highly interactive but my only complaint is that you are in the city as the company name implies which comes with the downside of some of the environments being pretty noisy and making the foreign language learning process more complicated. For me, I much prefer a standard school environment.

Experiencia fantástica: I have studied Spanish with this school for one week now and I can truly say how amazing it is. I am a beginner and am in a group with just one other person, which is perfect for learning. My teacher Claudia is THE BEST! She always makes us feel super comfortable and the classes are so much fun. I am actually shocked by how much I have learned in just one week! I can genuinely recommend taking classes with this school and especially studying with Claudia. It’s also cool that you meet in different places each day. This is how you can get to know Mexico City better. I will for sure take more classes!

Experiencia fantástica: I took three weeks of classes with Brenda at Spanish in the City and had an amazing experience! I loved that the classes were immersive, engaging, and gave us the opportunity to learn about Mexican culture, while learning the language. I can’t thank Brenda enough for how much I learned in 3 short weeks!

Experiencia fantástica: I took Spanish class with Brenda for three weeks and absolutely loved my time! From grammar and cultural lessons, to conversation practice, I learned a great deal with every class. She tailored every lesson to the needs of her students and each class was engaging and thought provoking. When I return to CDMX in the future, I hope to continue my lessons at Spanish in the City with Brenda.

I worked with Brenda and she made learning fun and impactful. She is a talented instructor with the capacity to connect deeply to make students feel at ease and comfortable making mistakes. She goes the extra mile to ensure understanding and takes her role as a teacher very seriously. 100% recommend

Experiencia fantástica: Brenda is one of the best teachers I ever had. Not only is she really bright, she’s insightful, creative and really caring. I especially enjoyed the addition of Mexican art and culture that she added to our language lessons. And, I do hope I can come back again and join her class! All my best, Jerry.

¡Me encantó!

Experiencia fantástica: I just completed my third session of the week long courses with Spanish in the City and I absolutely love this school! I moved to Mexico a few months ago and could speak very little Spanish. I wanted a school that would teach well but also expose me to different parts of the city. We start the day in a cafe for the lessons then spend the second half in a park, museum, library or other cultural location and we converse and practice what we learned. I’ve learned so much and feel much more comfortable speaking the language. This last week I had Ana for my B1 level and she was wonderful. I highly recommend her class. She’s a good teacher and always prepared with really interesting talking points and topics for discussion for practicing dialogue after the grammar lessons. I highly recommend Spanish in the City for anyone who wants to learn in a fun environment while seeing interesting parts of CDMX. Great for someone visiting for a week or living here who needs to learn the language!

Experiencia fantástica: Loved my experience with Spanish in the City. Everyday we met for four hours of Spanish grammar and conversation practice. The location in the city changes everyday. Our teacher Ana (B1) was the best, I'd highly recommend her!

Experiencia fantástica: I took group lessons here for two weeks. My teacher, Carmen, was cheerful and kind, and taught me a lot about Mexican culture. My classmates were also kind, so I had a fun and comfortable lesson. I learned in various places, which was great because it broadened my range of activities. I would like to continue studying and come back again

Experiencia fantástica: I’ve struggled with Spanish for years, taking classes and doing independent study off and on. But after taking three months of classes with Spanish in the City this summer, I made real progress. I’m now an advanced student, still improving, but worlds away from where I started as a beginner. Along with making real progress, I had a phenomenal time in Mexico City and with the school. I took small group classes four hours a day in the morning and for a few weeks an hour of private lessons after. Now that I’m back in the US I’m also taking classes remotely from the school, which is a neat option. The instructors are AMAZING at what they do and they’re qualified to do it. They all have degrees in linguistics from the top university in the country. I mostly took classes from Claudia, but also Ana, Alonso, and Gustavo. I feel truly lucky to have spent a summer with them. They encouraged me to learn, made me laugh, and shared critical perspectives. They’re all deeply knowledgeable about not only the language but also culture, history, literature, and politics. I was constantly learning, the language of course, but also about the city and cultural production. Every day I felt excited to go to class and spend time with them. They’re genuinely great people who helped me feel at home in CDMX <3 I’ll note that I especially recommend this school for folks like me, graduate students, social workers, teachers, etc., who have a drive to learn and an interest in social justice. Taking private and small enough group classes, I could provide feedback and request specific topics, for example, workplace vocabulary or public transit. How the school is structured is great for folks who want to explore the city too. We would meet every morning in a different cafe for two hours and then two hours in a beautiful CDMX park. We regularly went to ones in zones like Condesa and Roma Norte, but also Coyacan, Del Valle, and Centro. This helped me structure my time and exploration of the city. I got to know the city well — in a way most tourists never have the opportunity to. A big part of that was having the opportunity to experience the city with my teachers, walking with them in the streets, have Friday museum visits, and learn from their stories. I’m so glad I decided to spend the summer with them. This school is seriously the best option to learn Spanish in CDMX.

Experiencia fantástica: I studied with Alonso for 4 weeks and it was the best decision I’ve made! I started at a high B1 and went to B2 in a week. I liked the style of going from a cafe to somewhere in the city as it let me explore the city while also making new friends. Alonso was awesome at breaking down grammar concepts and also spoke super clearly. He also makes amazing notes that makes complex concepts like reflexive and indirect objects so much more understandable.

Experiencia fantástica: Spanish in the City is a fantastic place to learn Spanish. My teachers, Leesha and Mari, were outstanding. Leesha explained grammar clearly and patiently, while Mari brought energy, warmth, and real-life Spanish into every class. Both created a supportive, fun environment where I felt comfortable learning and saw real progress. Highly recommend! Muchas gracias a todos los que me ayudaron en mi viaje con español!!!

Experiencia fantástica: I spent six weeks in group and private lessons with Spanish in the City between late July and early August, and it’s difficult to even fathom a better experience than the one I had. I started at an A2+ or low B1 level and came back at probably a low B2. I’m really happy with this, and it’s a testament to my instructors, because (1) I wouldn’t consider myself a particularly natural language learner, and (2) my experience was that I was having a blast, not like … grinding. I looked at multiple Spanish schools in the city and chose this one because the level diagnostic was reading- and writing-based, not just fill-in-the-blank grammar drills, which seems to be more typical in the area. I figured a school like this would better align with my goals—of course a solid grasp of grammar is foundational, but the point of learning Spanish is to actually communicate with neighbors, friends’ parents, and families at the schools where I work. The basic setup is that you’re grouped with students at a similar level for five hours of morning classes. Optional one-hour lessons follow in the afternoon, and I’m really glad I took them. I always felt the groupings were spot-on—I was never totally scrambling, never bored, and learned a lot from my classmates. The school also seems to attract thoughtful, interesting people from a bunch of different countries, and I enjoyed spending time with several outside of class. Mornings start in different coffee shops for grammar, then move to a second location—usually a park, sometimes a museum—to integrate what we learned through conversation, games, shared readings, etc. I liked getting to know different parts of the city and having time outside in the sun. The best part of the whole trip was my teachers—anything I say will be an understatement. I had Alonso for group lessons and Brenda for private lessons all six weeks, and I liked the consistency. Both are pedagogically skilled—the curriculum makes sense, flows logically, and they explain things in ways that make them feel simpler. On top of that, they’re both really smart, interesting, literary people with broad and deep knowledge of the history, culture, and art of the city, the country, and the world. I feel lucky to have learned from them—about everything, not just Spanish. The classes were warm, fun, and friendly, with the right balance of spontaneity and structure. I was sad when they ended each day, and even sadder when my six weeks were up. Also — from my brief interactions with other teachers, I’d say that the whole staff here really rocks. This is a special experience, and if you get to go soon, please just know that I’m jealous of you.

Experiencia fantástica: I highly recommend Spanish in the City Language School. I have participated in many Spanish immersion programs throughout the years, and I can say with confidence that my experience with Spanish in the City has been phenomenal. The communication with Gustavo to organize private classes both in person and online has been effortless. My classes with Adrián, both in person and online, have helped me to feel like I am growing in my Spanish abilities more quickly than I have in the past. He is incredibly knowledgeable about language and linguistics and makes learning digestible and enjoyable. I enjoy being able to continue classes with Adrián virtually after being in Mexico City. A perk of the school is that you can take classes in cafes and throughout the city instead of being in a school building each day. My father joined me for classes, and he also enjoyed and appreciated his classes with Carmen. I hope to be back in Mexico City to enjoy more in-person classes in the future!

Experiencia fantástica: I honestly can’t imagine a better experience. I only did a week and I learned so much, felt more confident, met some great people (tourists and instructors), and saw five different neighborhoods of CDMX. It is not my first time visiting and I still got a lot out of the visits. But it’s instructors like Yasmin and Brenda that are the best parts of this school. You work in small groups (ours was 4 plus Brenda except a day she was sick) and she was patient, challenging, helpful, and encouraging. I intend to come back for a month just to take these classes. Still had plenty of time for sightseeing and eating well. HIGHLY recommend taking this course so you too can speak with locals

Experiencia fantástica: I studied at Spanish In The City for two weeks in July in intensive group lessons, and I cannot recommend this language school highly enough. I owe that to my incredible tutor Alonso, who I studied with for two weeks. Alonso was not only extremely professional and competent, but also created a learning environment that was warm, joyful, and where his students were not afraid to make mistakes and take risks. You are grouped with other students at the same level as you, which is determined by a diagnostic test you take before you arrive. My tutor made sure to check in to see if we felt comfortable in the level we were placed in after the first day. All of the materials were provided, including worksheets, a notebook, and a pen. If you prefer to color code your notes or one specific materials, I recommend bringing those, but the basics are definitely covered by the school. I’d also bring a folder or binder to organize the papers you receive. I really enjoyed the structure of classes in Spanish In The City. Every day, the groups meet in a different neighborhood around Mexico City. The first two hours begin in a local café where you learn concrete grammatical concepts, and practice with those concepts through worksheets and activities. I appreciated meeting at a café because I could also make sure that I was caffeinated, which was very much needed. The second part of class you move to a nearby park (or on Fridays, a museum) and engage in activities that allow you to practice more deeply with speaking, reading, and listening. For example, you might read a text on a topic, review the vocab, and then have an organic conversation with your classmates and tutor about your opinions, thoughts, and questions about the topic. I really loved the structure because it allowed me to have more practice with daily conversations and it also allowed me to develop deeper friendships with my classmates. Another thing I really liked about the structure of these classes was the fact that every day was a little bit different. Although it wasn't a traditional brick and mortar classroom setting, I felt that the ability to see different locations around Mexico City was a huge boon. There are certain places we visited that I might not have visited on my own, like La Biblioteca Vasconcelos, which ended up being one of my favorite spots! Finally, I can't speak highly enough of my tutor Alonso and the other tutors that I got a chance to interact with who all contributed to my Spanish learning process. Not only was Alonso an incredible language teacher, but also a fount of information about the history of Mexico, prompting his students to think critically about historical and social realities in the city, country, and world. During museum visits, he was basically our tour guide, and I learned so much from his explanations and anecdotes. Thank you so much for an incredible two weeks and ojalá nos veamos pronto <3 !

Experiencia fantástica: 100000% would recommend! As a native English speaker, I’ve taken lots of language classes throughout the years (Chinese, French) and I also have a masters in teaching pedagogy. I can confidently say this was one of my favorite classes I’ve ever taken! The classes take place in different parts of the city (Coyoacán, Roma, Condesa, Chapultepec, Cuauhtémoc, etc.), making it really great to acquire language while exploring CDMX. This was my third time in CDMX, and this time I felt like I learned the most about different neighborhoods. It was the right mixture of must-see bucket list places, and places that I wouldn’t have ventured to myself. Signing up was easy, and communication about where to go was constant. I started with no formal Spanish education in the A0 class, and when I gained confidence, I was able to ask to switch to the A1 class really easily without difficulty after a couple days. After around 7 days of daily 4 hour classes and 1 hour private lessons, I feel confident in speaking my at an A1/A2 level. Shoutout to some specific instructors: Omar! He is the type of instructor who excels because it’s clear he enjoys teaching and meeting new people. He was extremely prepared, and was really great at breaking down certain grammar topics. (I’m going to steal some of his explanations of the imperfect past for my French students next year!) He was able to foster a great community in small 4-5 person classes, and I frequently laughed until my belly hurt. Even at our low level, he masterfully facilitated interesting and complex conversations, way beyond what I might have imagined for beginners. It felt like the right mixture of drilling basic concepts, having interesting discussions, and going on tangents. My private lessons with Ana were also incredible. She is brilliant, cheeky, and a kind soul. She’s sooooo cool. She is a master at helping review difficult topics from classes, and also helped extend interesting topics, knowing when to push me. She was also incredibly flexible in terms of timing, and accommodated me when I needed to move a lesson or two. She gave me great recommendations for bars and shows. I loved talking about my life with her, and learning more about her. I also briefly had classes with Adrián and Carmen who were also both prepared, kind, and helpful!

Our teacher Omar was great at explaining all the main concepts and provided useful written and conversational exercises for us to put what we learned into practice. He also shared lots of interesting anecdotes about the city and Mexican history and culture. The class was a good size (5 students) and well matched in ability. Fully recommend!

Experiencia fantástica: Really great way to learn Spanish. Well structured days. Each day is different and you meet in a cafe for the first two hours to do grammar etc then you relocate to a park or museum for the next two hours. Small groups - five people maximum. Highly recommend! Both Omar and Braulio were very good teachers! The warmth and friendliness of the teachers is wonderful!

Experiencia fantástica: I highly recommend Spanish in the City for those who want to improve their Spanish and learn about the history and culture of Mexico (both the city and the country). All my fellow students were interesting and engaged with the lessons and Alonso is an EXCELLENT teacher and human. My group was working at the intermediate level. As a teacher myself, I know how much skill it takes to tailor your instruction to the individual needs of your students and Alonso was great at this! My group consisted of 4-5 students which was the perfect number. I really loved how we met up in different coffee shops (usually near Condesa, but in other locations as well). A highlight was visiting the Museo Nacional de Arte. We typically did two hours of grammar-focused lessons (all materials provided) followed by two hours that were a little more casual/fun but that still focused on the grammar skills were we working on. Highly recommended!

Experiencia fantástica: I highly recommend this school for those looking to improve their Spanish. My teacher Omar has a very effective approach, especially for beginners like me. I appreciated that the groups were small (only 3-4 other students, also at my level, each week). The mix of mini-lecture, worksheets to practice conjugating verbs, conversation practice and engaging games made the 4 hour class go quickly with lots of laughter. I also loved having a reason to travel to different cafes and parques across different neighborhoods in the city. I went from knowing 3 verbs at the beginning of week 1, to over 100 at the end of my second week. I wish I could have stayed longer, I will hopefully return in the future to continuing my language learning here. There is nothing I would change or improve, todo bien!!!
