Guadalajara Language Center was founded in 2004 by Craig Allen and Wouter Stut.
Our Spanish classes are focused on flexibility and personal attention for every individual student. Classes are catered towards the students as every student has their own way of learning. For this reason teachers adapt to the student. This is made possible through very small classes with and average of 3 students per class. Classes are separated by level.
Besides classes their are every day activities.
Guadalajara Language Center: Opiniones
Experiencia fantástica: Just returned from a week of classes with GLC. Great teachers, warm/friendly atmosphere and good extracurricular options. Don't miss the tour of Tlaquepaque or the cooking class. Wouter and his staff are so welcoming and supportive -- feels like being part of a family. Highly reccommend.
Hi Sue, thanks for the comments. Hope everything went ok with your finger prints. ;)
Experiencia fantástica: Eine tolle Sprachschule, sehr gut organisiert, gute Lehrer, sehr nette Atmosphäre. Der Inhaber bemüht sich sehr und bietet viele tolle Ausflüge und Events an.
Thanks for the comments. One of the view that I have in German.
Experiencia fantástica: I just finished a great two weeks at Guadalajara Language Centre. It was my second time attending this school, the first was about 8 years ago. My Spanish speaking has advanced since then, and the school assesses your abilities and places you in a small class at the appropriate level. I thoroughly enjoyed my second stay. The school is well located and has some nice amenities including a courtyard garden, swimming pool, and a comfortable area for students to socialize. Wouter, who owns and runs the school is always available and helpful and provides information on fun extra-curricular activities. I studied four hours a day - which was enough to learn but still left time to explore the city. Tlaquepaque is a beautiful enclave within Guadalajara city, it’s easy to find your way around and also very convenient to get to the historical centre of Guadalajara. The lessons are less structured than some other Spanish schools, with more conversation, and teachers tend to adjust their methods to the level and interests of the students. I found the speaking practice very useful having spent a lot of time previously learning grammar and verb conjugations. Wouter is helpful in helping to find nearby accommodation — from private apartments to homestay arrangements with local families. Overall it was a wonderful experience and I will return. Gracias to Wouter and my teachers, Rox, Lalo and Elizabeth.
Experiencia fantástica: I had an amazing experience at GLC and staying in Tlaquepaque. The school is really well set-up in terms of the schedule, and classes and the atmosphere is relaxed and friendly. The class sizes are small to enable lots of engagement and support. All the teachers I encountered were genuinely kind and helpful and they tailored clases to individual needs. Wouter, the owner, is a amazing person and really goes out of his way to help all students and make the experience unique and fun. The school's available accommodations are comfortable and convenient and very well-priced. Tlaquepaque is lovely - very walkable, lots of nice places to go eat and interesting things to do, and it's easy accesible to Guadalajara and other beautiful towns like Chapala. It’s very safe and laid back but also vibrant and dynamic. People are generally helpful, warm and patient. GLC offers lots of diverse optional affordable (and some free) activities and also shares tons of info about other sights and acitivties available. I did most of them - I especially enjoyed GLC's cooking class and the weekly hikes to hot springs and waterfalls. I extended my stay by ome week because i was enjoying it so much. During the three weeks I was at GLC, my Spanish improved signicantly, I made friends and learned a lot about the local culture. I honestly could not have asked for a better experience. I will definitely be back!
Experiencia fantástica: 1
Experiencia fantástica: I had such a great experience here. Really fantastic teachers who made the classes fun and interactive but who were also very knowledgable and explained the concepts well. Group classes are small, which is great. Wouter also arranges a bunch of activities which is nice to get the know him and the other students - walking tours, hikes, cooking classes, info about the Lucha Libre, etc. It's a really friendly vibe. Would highly recommend for people at any level of Spanish.
Experiencia fantástica: Absolutely loved my week long stint at the school, so much so that I am already planning my return! The teachers are experienced, dynamic and clearly know what they are doing. What made the experience extra special was the care and attention that the director put into the school and our stay. He is very communicative, hands on, and truly cares. He goes above and beyond and I can't thank him enough for the ways in which he ensured our unique needs were attended to!!
Experiencia fantástica: Teachers were great! Informal and friendly atmosphere. I enjoyed my experience. I’m glad that I had the experience.
Experiencia fantástica: Small class sizes. Good teachers. Tlaquepaque is a nice, chill neighborhood to spend a few weeks for language classes.
Experiencia fantástica: I spent 3 weeks at GDL Language Centre and really noticed a big improvement in my Spanish spoken and written. The school is small enough to be personal and friendly whilst big enough to house several classrooms and a very good range of teachers for every level. The teachers are dedicated and extremely friendly and professional. Numbers per class are low so one really does learn and absorb a lot of Spanish. The school itself is being extended currently to include an outdoor pool and yoga studio. Tlaquepaque is a uniquely beautiful place with exposure to local culture and of course beautifully spoken Spanish everywhere. It is also extremely walkable and safe. I highly recommend GDL Language Centre.
Experiencia fantástica: My kids and I had a wonderful experience learning Spanish at Guadalajara Language Center. The kids (11 and 8) had an excellent teacher and picked up so much in just one week. And my group class was lovely. Highly recommend!
Experiencia fantástica: Highly recommend! I took two weeks of intensive classes at the Guadalajara Language Center and it was an unforgettable experience. I had various teachers throughout my stay and every one was wonderful and supportive. There were activities organized for students almost every day of the week and a group chat to stay connected. I left feeling a lot more confident and knowledgeable with my Spanish. Tlaquepaque is also an awesome part of Guadalajara to stay and learn in. Wish I could've stayed longer!
Experiencia fantástica: I can’t recommend the Guadalajara Language Center (GLC) highly enough. Nestled in the heart of the charming town of Tlaquepaque, this school offers far more than just language instruction — it offers a welcoming, vibrant community dedicated to helping you grow. I just completed three wonderful weeks of Spanish study at GLC and I’m leaving not only with improved language skills, but with something even more valuable: true confidence in my ability to speak and understand Spanish. Wouter (the director) and his team are absolutely top notch — professional, kind, and deeply committed to each student’s success. I was fortunate to have Aura as my instructor, and she was simply outstanding: patient, insightful, and always encouraging. Beyond the classroom, GLC also offers a rich array of optional cultural and social activities, which made it easy to connect with fellow students and immerse myself more fully in the local culture. To Wouter, Aura, and the entire GLC team — thank you for creating such a meaningful and transformative experience. I’m already looking forward to coming back!
Thanks James, for the comments. It is always nice to hear that students enjoyed their stay.
Experiencia fantástica: A friend recently signed up for an intensive beginners class starting in November, which inspired me to check out the school’s website. I contacted the school after seeing they offered a free class, and the Zoom option was perfect since I don’t live nearby. Wouter was wonderful, very seamless and responsive in setting everything up, and he connected me with Sergio as my teacher. I really enjoyed my class with Sergio! It was refreshing to learn from such an engaging, varied, and experienced instructor who kept my attention and focus throughout. Thank you to the team for your professionalism, responsiveness, and for connecting me with such an excellent teacher. As a result, I’ve decided to take more Zoom classes in the very near future.
Experiencia fantástica: I've been back to the Guadalajara Language Center multiple times now. I really enjoy the style of teaching. It's more about practical learning rather than studying out of a book. It's a great way to learn through immersion by speaking and listening to Spanish while getting your grammar and vocabulary questions answered. This is instead of the other way around which I find much less effective for learning Spanish (the usual method of teaching a language). The instructors are great. They are very knowledgeable about the Spanish language. And I'm always able to get a lot of practical, real-life questions answered in classes, including important questions about local culture and customs that are normally difficult to find answers to. Every time I have visited it's always great experience and my speaking and listening skills have improved a great deal. I am now able to have conversations with taxi drivers, people in restaurants, etc.
Hi Robert, thanks for the review. Always nice to have you here.
Experiencia fantástica: 5 stars! I did the Intensive Program for 4 weeks and loved it. Great teachers, fun activities, and I learned a lot. The owner, Wouter, had good suggestions for things to do in the area and was helpful throughout my stay!
Experiencia fantástica: Great little school with excellent instructors and super nice fellow students from all over. I was especially appreciative of all the social events which helped reinforce learning and keep it fun. The Bustamante family stay was so nice as well--they were gracious, respectful hosts whose extensive experience doing this was obvious. Thank you to Wouter and crew for a wonderful experience. Looking forward to seeing you all again.
Experiencia fantástica: The best school !!
Experiencia fantástica: Had an awesome time at the school. We did a two week crash course starting from zero Spanish. Even in the two weeks we gained so much knowledge to help us on our Latin American travels. The teachers are fun and engaging. The owner also put a lot of effort into sharing information about activities to do in the city. He even organised some free activities for the students including hiking and natural hot spring trips. The location in Tlaquepaque is also convenient and beautiful. The social side was also great with the other students being like minded.
Thanks for the comments. Always nice to hear that people had a good time.
Experiencia fantástica: I and my two young children took Spanish classes for three weeks at GLC and we loved it! I'm in between B1/B2 and have attended online classes for years and did one summer in a Spanish school in Barcelona. I have to say I made SUCH quick progress across my three weeks with GLC, especially with the subjunctive (thanks Rox!). The teachers are wonderful at explaining and know how to meet you where you are. It was a good combination of structure and free flowing conversation. Classes were small, 2-4 students at any given time, so you get a lot of attention and get to know your teachers well. I appreciated the diversity of students - from all ages and walks of life. We also just had a lot of fun together, playing games on Friday like Scrabble and Basta and even a Spanish karaoke contest. I plan to return again sometime next year and take advantage of the housing with the Bustamontes - my classmates spoke highly of it. I feel super lucky to have had my kids (ages 6 and 7) there with me; they've attended Spanish immersion school since they were babies but this is the first time they'd had actual instruction in Spanish. Their teachers are WONDERFUL with children, coming up with fun games and activities to teach them Spanish. I saw a lot of growth in my kids' abilities, especially with verb tenses. I really felt like they truly cared for my kids and treated them as if they were their own. The school even threw my 6 year old a birthday party. As we were leaving the last day, my kids asked if we could come back again. No better endorsement!
Experiencia fantástica: I had a great experience at the GDL language center. I learned from some of the most skilled Spanish teachers I have ever had, and I mean it. Their classes are well balanced to ensure that everyone is at the optimal learning level, whether you don't speak a lick of Spanish or you've been studying it for 20 years. My Spanish improved incredibly over my 2 weeks. Highly recommend!
Experiencia fantástica: We hired two amazing tutors from GLC, Daniela and Elizabeth for our sons, ages 12 and 16. They worked with our boys daily and were an absolute pleasure to work with. It was easy to set up and I highly recommend the school. We will definitely use them again when we return to Guadalajara.
Experiencia fantástica: My experience at the Guadalajara Language Center was truly unforgettable. From the moment I walked in, I felt like I was part of a family. The teachers are not only incredibly knowledgeable and skilled at teaching Spanish, but they are also warm, patient, and genuinely invested in your progress. What stood out most was how welcoming and supportive everyone was. They created a comfortable and encouraging environment that made learning enjoyable and stress-free. Whether I was struggling with grammar or trying to build confidence in conversation, the instructors were always there with helpful guidance and a smile. I highly recommend the Guadalajara Language Center to anyone looking to learn Spanish in a meaningful and memorable way.
Experiencia fantástica: I concur with all the wonderful things said about Wouter and GLC. I studied 4 hrs per day for one month, one on one instruction. Vanessa and Lalo were my main teachers, and I had a few classes with Rox and Monica. All were patient, professional and excellent. Whatever I did not retain/learn was NOT their fault! All instruction is customized. No workbook, as others mentioned. I took a lot of notes! I stayed in a studio apt at the Bustamantes. Lovely, helpful couple. I did not eat meals with them. There is a very economical laundromat a block away, so pack light! Same day wash/fold service. The metro is a ten minute walk. Very handy, clean and safe. Liked staying in Tlaquepaque. After GLC, I went to a school in Oaxaca City for 3 wks. Hard not to love Oaxaca! I hope to study at GLC again this year. Highly recommend it. Wouter and his team are first rate. You won't regret it!
Experiencia fantástica: I had been searching for a long time to find an in person Spanish class. I dropped by one day while on vacation and the owner, Wouter, greeted me, explained how the school worked and gave me options for the type of class that would best fit my needs. I came back a month later and I was not disappointed. The classes are affordable and the hours are very convenient. The location is perfect; located in the heart of the city. The teachers that I had were fantastic. Thanks Rox and Lalo! I am looking forward to going back!
Experiencia fantástica: GLC surpassed my expectations! I enjoyed my 4 hours of class each day. The staff are so welcoming and I learned so much just from my one week there. I will be going back for sure! Wouter was so accommodating and my instructors, Rox and Lalo made class so fun and were patient with me When I didn't understand a concept.
Experiencia fantástica: My wife and our almost-5-year-old son just spent a week in Guadalajara over the week before Easter. They did 2 hours a day of Spanish lessons at the Guadalajara Language Center and had a great time. My wife describes her lessons as "excellent," and our son also had a blast with his teacher, who was able to "meet him at his level." Furthermore, Wouter is responsive and really on top of things. Highly recommended.
Experiencia fantástica: Just spent 4 weeks at GLC. I would highly recommend this school. Spanish will be my third language so I have a lot of experience learning languages and found the teaching approach at GLC very effective. I was extremely impressed with all the teachers. Every Monday there can be a new group of students and I was extremely impressed by how much focus and discussion the teachers had amongst themselves to best evaluate each individual students level to ensure they were placed in the correct class level. All of the teachers were amazing!! The courses are very interactive, so trust the process and you will be surprised how much you learn.
Experiencia fantástica: I absolutely loved the classes at the Guadalajara Language Center! The teachers were amazing - friendly, patient, innovative, and fun. I wish that I could have stayed another week. Tlaquepaque is a fun town with lots to do. I will return!
Experiencia fantástica: Amazing teachers! Full of energy and creative ways to explain things and keep the classes fun and engaging. A focus on conversation which is what most lack and can't teach/practice themselves. The school also has everything you need to hook you up with activities, homestays (an incredible experience!) or other accomodations. I was there 3 weeks and loved it. Reasonably priced and based in a vibrant part of Guadalajara (Tlaquepaque) that you have to explore!
Experiencia positiva: I enjoyed my learning experience very much at Guadalajara Language Institute. The teachers are of high caliber. Each that I had (3) were enthusiastic and professional. They knew how to teach. I enjoyed it so much I extended my stay by a week. I took the 4 hr a day option and glad that I did, although I will say, I was tired by the end of three weeks! The school has a friendly vibe with a diverse group of students coming and going. I recommend the city tour and the hike but don’t believe Walter when he tells you it’s easy!
Experiencia fantástica: Very welcoming staff, ideal location, great teachers . Definitely a recommendation!
Experiencia fantástica: Attended the beginner Spanish classes. I got different teachers who are all knowledgeable about Spanish and are also fluent in English.
Experiencia fantástica: I did 2 weeks of intermediate level classes at GLC in January, 2025 and my experience was totally positive. Wouter is very charming and made the whole process of signing up and getting enrolled in class easy. My teachers were excellent and the class sizes were small. In fact I wound up having 2 hour private lessons with Sergio, due to few students being enrolled at my level at that time for afternoon lessons. Sergio is an excellent teacher and made class fun with games and outings walking around Tlaquepaque with me. I also had morning classes with small groups and learned so much in my 2 weeks at GLC. If your goal is to gain confidence in listening to and speaking Spanish, GLC is an excellent choice.
Thanks Dan, it was very nice having you here. Nice to hear you enjoyed your stay.
Experiencia fantástica: I had a great week at GLC. I did a one-week intensive course at the intermediate level and stayed at The Castle homestay. Rox and Lalo were very good instructors and delightful people. They emphasized a conversational approach, identified my specific needs and interests, and worked on those during the week. I prefer to learn languages informally and really enjoyed this. It helped that I was the only student at the intermediate level that week—it was very customized. There were four hours of instruction each day: the first two hours with Rox, then a break, then the second two hours with Lalo. Working with different instructors was useful for listening comprehension. They are also intellectually interesting people—these were really fun conversations. I loved staying at The Castle. The room was spacious and private with its own bathroom. Alicia was a good host and Aida’s meals were great! Good portions and good food. More opportunity for conversation practice. It’s well situated, on a quiet street two blocks from the school and three blocks from the town square and lively street life of Tlaquepaque. Tlaquepaque itself was a great place to be—safe, comfortable walking around, food carts and restaurants, practical corner stores. Hours spent on benches in the town square people-watching especially with all the activity of Advent season. Glad that speaking English wasn’t an option—people responded in Spanish to my imperfect Spanish. The light rail to Guadalajara center was about a 20-minute walk away, and Ubering was easy. Wouter’s planning and communication were clear. Everything ran on schedule and as planned from the time he picked me up at the airport. I appreciated the activities provided (such as the tourist bureau’s tour of Tlaquepaque) and the communication about what else was going on. This is a uniformly glowing review and I’m trying to think of what did not go well. I don’t think of anything. It was a great week.
Experiencia fantástica: I took classes for two weeks, first for two hours a day, then I increased it to three hours a day. I ended up having two different teachers and I really liked them both. They were flexible and responsive. Wouter was very helpful and accommodating. The other students were really friendly and very impressive with their commitment to learning Spanish. The whole program was very laid back, yet it was a great kick start for my language learning.
Experiencia fantástica: Wouter was very accommodating at the school. The teachers were able to meet me at my level of understanding and patient with my learning. They also prompted me, challenged me to go beyond my self imposed limits. Classes were both grammer and conversation which was helpful. I highly recommend taking classes here regardless of your level of fluency.
Experiencia fantástica: I spent 3 weeks at Guadalajara Language Center taking one-on-one classes and had an excellent experience. Teachers are changed/rotated amongst the students so you can end up with a few different instructors from week to week. Being exposed to different instructors and styles of teaching was really beneficial and helped reinforce things. All the teachers I had were fantastic, and it was a nice friendly environment at the school. I will be back for future lessons.
Experiencia fantástica: I'm a teacher, so I tend to have high standards for classes I take. The Guadalajara Language Center did not disappoint. I had a variety of teachers and they all bring something unique to the experience. Let them know what your focus is (grammar, communication, pronunciation, culture, slang) and they will do their best to help you. I was also very pleased with the suggestions for outside activities from Wouter, the owner; he works very hard to encourage "community", which is nice if you come alone and are shy about meeting people.
Experiencia fantástica: I absolutely loved my week at the school. Everything is well organized and the teachers are kind and skilled, but i especially appreciated how they made me feel like I was among friends. Standing in the kitchen around the coffee pot between classes was like fond memories i have of being at the office among coworker friends, laughing about the events of the night before or getting details to plan future adventures in the city. Wouter is like a concierge at a nice hotel, giving advice and helping arrange things unrelated to classes. Also, the location is great, situated among quaint Mexican streets full of restaurants, plazas, and traditional markets. I stayed at a nearby quaint hotel which I also adored (casa campos) so my walk to school each day through the plaza was the perfect start.
Experiencia fantástica: 4.5/5. The teachers here are incredibly friendly and the owner, Wouter, is great! The teachers focus on Mexican Spanish which is useful if you want some cultural context as you learn. The school is easy to find and is clean. I felt my spanish improved here after a week. From what I've heard, it's the best school in Guadalajara! My only feedback is that it does feel quite informal. There is no textbook, with more of a conversational and ad-hoc approach. I think this is still effective, but was different from what I was expecting.
Experiencia positiva: Private lessons are the way to go if you’re already conversational. As an advanced intermediate Spanish speaker I was underwhelmed with the class and teacher quality. The other student in my class couldn’t carry on a fluid conversation. So the class went very slowly. I didn’t learn much apart from subjunctive usages. The beginner students seemed to really like their classes and said they were learning a lot. Me and two other students did the “homestay” at the Bustamantes. None of us liked it. There are 6 guest rooms and they have plans to add two more rooms. Pros: Clean rooms, 15 minute walk to the school, and a nice garden/terrace area. Cons : It felt more like a boarding house with shared meals than an actual homestay where you have the chance to interact and relate with the hosts.. Breakfast was promptly at 8am and lunch at 2pm. The breakfast was usually okay, eggs, bread, fruit. Tostadas one day. Sometimes the hosts would have much larger portions than the guests. They fix the small plates for you and never offer seconds. Lunch was more of the same. Small portions. I remember 2 good meals the whole week. The other guests didn’t like the meals either. BTW there are no meals served on the weekend. The conversation at meal time was mostly Mr Bustamante talking at us rather than with us. He also talked over his sweet wife all the time. Another guest rightfully observed that he takes up all the oxygen in the room. The activities promoted on the GLC website weren’t delivered. There isn’t a language exchange with the evening English students. Instead the owner gives you a list of language exchange meetups in Guadalajara proper, about a 30 minute drive from the school. The other activities such has wrestling aren’t really group activities. They just give you the event information and address and you’re free to self organize and go with other students if you want. That said the owner does lead the hike to Barranca. The “tour” of Tlaquepaque was 2.5 hours of two museums and a Church visit. It dragged on too long. All 4 of us asked the guide to talk in Spanish. He talked in English most of the time, and did a lot of flirting with the younger attractive female in the group which delayed the tour by about 30 minutes in my estimation. Response: As you well know Bonnie wanted to leave the house twice. She even gave you notice after the first week. Then she couldn’t find another place so she stayed. The other guest wasn’t impressed either. People are polite and don’t want to complain. If you really want to improve your business you might do anonymous surveys. Casually asking students in front of others such as the teachers isn’t conducive to candid feedback. As far as activities we had to specifically ask you to be to send the list on WhatsApp. As it turns out you sent it as “disappearing messages”. The next day 3 or 4 people asked you to send them again and you declined saying you’d already shared the list. Next, I specifically purchased the 4 hours per day package to do the language exchange with the evening English students; giving us the names of a few la gauge exchange meetups in Guadalajara isn’t a good substitute. I suggest you update the website to reflect the actual service provided. As written now, it is misleading.
Hi Nicholas, thanks for your comments. I am sorry to hear that you were not totally satisfied with your experience at our school. I have spoken with the family to make them aware although most of the students tell me the opposite as you can read in the reviews. I will make it more clear on the website that some of the activities you will not be accompanied by a guide. For Luche Libre for example there are tours offered not through the school but the charge you double the price. For this reason we provide all the information on how to get there, the price, the times and information where it is about. Most students have no problem doing this with other students without a guide. Every Monday we do a presentation of all the activities going on. Alm the information is then added to the schools WhatsApp group where you can go over it again. I am always available during school hours or after school hour over the WhatsApp if you have any additional questions. We have every day activities you can do and several days more than one. We have during the weekend 4 tours that are available that are done in a group with a guide. These are tours to Tequila, to Chapala/Ajijic, to Cocula and to the ruins in Teuchitlan. During the week we have guided tours like the hike to the hot springs which is for free for example.
As for as I know the other students where happy with their stay with the home stay. Bonnie even mentioned to me she wanted to come back and stay with the same family.
Again I am sorry you did not fully enjoy your stay and thanks for the comments as this helps us to improve our service.
Experiencia fantástica: I just spent an amazing week studying Spanish in Wouter’s language school. He was an amazing host from start to finish. I highly recommend his program. My Spanish definitely improved and I will be back again soon.
Experiencia fantástica: The Guadalajara Language Center is a fantastic place to learn Spanish! The small class sizes allow for personalized instruction, and the teachers are incredibly knowledgeable and genuinely care about the success of each student. The school has a great supportive structure that connects students to the local community, which makes the experience even more immersive. The owner is amazing—engaging, helpful, and always respectful. He truly wants every student to have a wonderful time while learning. For more advanced speakers, the center offers volunteer community outreach programs that provide a deeper connection with local culture. One of the highlights of my time there was joining the owner on a hike to a nearby hot spring. It was a unique, joy-filled experience I wouldn’t have had otherwise (and I got to practice my Spanish throughout)! The regular excursions they plan allow students to explore off-the-beaten-path locations and deepen their cultural experience. If you’re looking for a place to learn Spanish while fully experiencing Mexico, I highly recommend the Guadalajara Language Center!
Thanks Pato, Friday hiking if you want to join
Experiencia fantástica: I joined GLC for a two-week stint in the advanced class last November, and I’m very pleased with my experience there. The first day, the teachers assessed my level and moved me into the appropriate class. They also quickly identified where I needed improvement and shifted conversations to focus on those skills. The classes are small, and the teachers’ schedules change somewhat week to week, so I got both personal attention and varied conversation among the different instructors. Since I had last studied the language in school, it was so refreshing to have adult conversations in Spanish. Rather than canned topics like the weather or ordering at a restaurant, I was able to for the first time talk about things like my favorite video games or reproductive rights in different countries. In addition to class time, Wouter, the owner, also provides students with opportunities outside of class to improve further. Overall, I think the school was a great value for my time and money, especially for advanced-level students. There was enough structure to ensure progress and enough flexibility to really delve into the topics or skills you want to improve.
Experiencia fantástica: The teachers at GLC were outstanding. They made the classes fun and engaging . The school is very small , so the classes are tiny ,or one on one, which makes for a more personalized and intensive learning experience.
Experiencia fantástica: What an amazing experience the Guadalajara Language Center was! The teachers are terrific, tremendously helpful and are so patient with their students. Wouter also offers multiple excursions, activities, events around town, tours, hikes throughout the week that have been really fun!! I also met some amazing people along the way. I really enjoyed my time in Tlaquepaque and plan to go back again one day! Attached are some pictures I captured from my trip :)
Beautiful pictures. Thanks Julia.
Experiencia fantástica: I just loved everything about this immersion. The school was great. I learned so much in five days. Really can’t believe how immersing yourself even for just five days makes such a big difference. The Homestay was also amazing. The host family was lovely. The food was, wonderful, and the place was clean and adorable. Thank you so much for everything! I’ll be back!
Experiencia fantástica: My brother and I spent 2 weeks at the Guadalajara Language Center (4 hours/day) and thoroughly enjoyed our experience. It is a small, school with a relaxed, friendly atmosphere where the instruction is tailored to one's individual level. Teachers are skilled, fun, friendly and look like they are enjoying their work. It is easy to get to know the other students and optional day trips, including suggestions for activities throughout the week are regularly available. Guadalajara Language Center is in Tlaquepaque, an easy 20 minute train ride from the center of Guadalajara. There is another school in Guadalajara that we were considering which seemed perhaps a more formal method of instruction. I am glad that we went with GLC: it was a cosy, friendly experience and we both learned a lot. Tlaquepaque is a small, old city with plenty of charm, especially when you're living in it. Getting to Guadalajara was easy and became secondary after we had settled in to our program at the GLC. We highly recommend the homestay that GLC can arrange. A lovely couple, very comfortable living arrangements, delicious home-cooked meals and lots of conversational Spanish! I would rate this entire experience as a 10/10!
Experiencia fantástica: Had an educational, culturally rewarding experience at the Guadalajara Language Center! Loved how the entrance quiz helped place me in the right class level — and especially appreciated Monica as my instructor. She challenged me to learn as much as I could in a brief amount of time, but still kept it fun. Located in a safe, interesting part of Guadalajara. Tip: take advantage of the housing, group activities and airport transportation!
Experiencia fantástica: This was a great school. The teachers do such a great job of making it interesting and really organized. Wouter did a great job taking care of us. I got injured while on a morning run and Wouter came to the scene and drove us to the hospital. When I couldn’t walk to the school following the injury, Wouter arranged to have the rest of the lessons at house. He was very accommodating. The teaching was very logical and interactive. I was also impressed how they had a plan for us and really moved our language learning along. We stayed at the apartment that Wouter recommended and it was great! Lots of room, clean, and air conditioning in one of the rooms.
Experiencia fantástica: I spent 5 days at The GLC and wish we had more time. The teachers were great! I loved both Rox and Lalo. Classes were a great mix of easy conversation and practical verb tense information. The Bustamante home stay was fantastic! A lively family, delicious meals, easy conversation and comfortable rooms. Both school and the Bustamante home was walkable and safe. I hope to go back again! If you plan on going, do yourself a favor and go for no less than 2 weeks!
Experiencia fantástica: We came to Guadalajara for the first time expressly to be in school for a week. It was delightful. Wouter walked us through everything and communication was solid. The three teachers we had were all fun and knowledgeable and made the whole ordeal less stressful than we thought it would be. Very encouraging and very positive. We did the homestay with the Bustamantes and they elevated the whole experience even more. Highly recommended all around. We'll be back.
Experiencia fantástica: Such a great experience! The teachers are very skilled and enthusiastic! The atmosphere at the school is friendly, positive and fun! Wouter is always organizing events for students, and giving tips on local tours and points of interest. Tlaquepaque is a wonderful area to visit! Highly recommend
Experiencia positiva: Good school, nice people, good instructors, students seem to make good progress. My only suggestion would be to have students be able to drill more using newly acquired grammar structures. Small pt for me but generally excellent
Experiencia fantástica: What a school! All around great experience, & I will be returning for more classes in the not-distant future. The classes are taught by native Mexican-Spanish speakers & are suited to one’s current level of proficiency. Everything can be set up through the school; classes, living arrangements, and adventures. Wouter, the school administrator, is a hiking guru & offers a number of options for group hikes, as well as weekend trips to surrounding places of interest. I found the GLC to be a great way to introduce myself to the city, establish a home base & a familiar group of people, all while concentrating on improving my language skills. As I said earlier, I will be returning to GLC soon for more Spanish language classes & for more adventure in the city of Guadalajara!
Thanks, Andres. Was very nice having you here. We had a lot of fun and my brother enjoyed your company a lot.
Experiencia fantástica: Wouter was good at making me feel comfortable at the school and I appreciated his good local knowledge. I found most instructors to be excellent and able to tune to my ability. Classes are also organized by ability and tend to be small, between 2 to 5 students, usually. A big benefit is getting to know the other students in class and then going on excursions in the afternoons or weekends together. Many of these are promoted through the school. I made some really nice friendships!
Experiencia fantástica: I was at the school for two weeks and loved every minute. The teachers were/are fun, entertaining, and above all knowledgeable in Spanish. The teachers kept the class active and involved, and they kept everyone engaged and not bored. The experience helped me broaden my Spanish base and gives me the tools that I need to continue. Experiencia fantástica: This is a great school with some very experienced and talented teachers. I did two weeks of Spanish classes and felt that I made great progress. Through the school, I spent nearly a week with a host family; they were very friendly and cooked amazing food, this was great opportunity for practicing speaking Spanish. Wouter (the owner) provides information on local attractions and leads hikes most weeks to some beautiful locations near the city - these were great fun!
Experiencia fantástica: The director, Wouter, is very nice. He gives great recommendations and even drove us to a hike to hot springs. The instructors are knowledgeable and made the learning fun and interesting. My home stay with the Bustamantes was great. They are a warm and generous couple. Tlaquepaque is a charming area just outside Guadalajara Centro. There are lots of restaurants and shops nearby and it’s an easy metro ride to Guadalajara Centro.
Experiencia fantástica: I'm 76 years old and was a little hesitant about trying the school. I needn't have worried. I spent two wonderful weeks learning the basics. Great teachers, small classes, very interactive, and FUN! It is located right in the middle of beautiful Tlaquepaque. I am now looking forward to returning for more classes when my schedule allows.
Thanks Donald. Good to hear you had a good time.
Experiencia fantástica: Guadalajara Language Center is the real deal. These guys are great and professional. I originally came for only one week but quickly realized the value of this incredible school and signed up for a second week. The town is amazing as well. Vacation while learning.
Thanks Hannes. Next time I hike the volcano I show you the pictures.
Experiencia fantástica: I highly recommend this school and homestay. The owner, Wouter, is incredibly welcoming and kind and all the instructors are excellent. The location is perfect for wandering around and eating in what feels like a small & safe town with easy access by train into Guadalajara should you want to explore there. There are great activities offered and plenty of information given for alternate things to do.
Hi Kim, thanks for the review. The dog is almost back to normal.
Experiencia fantástica: I recently spent 10 days at Guadalajara Language Center and I highly recommend the school to anyone interested in learning Spanish in Mexico. This was the fourth school I’ve attended in the last two years. The teachers were excellent, experienced and best of all dynamic and fun.Originally I was going to do a week of classes and then visit other areas , but I got so much out of the classes that I added an extra three days. I liked it so much that I have plans to return in a few months!
Experiencia fantástica: I signed up for the two week intensive course. Only after three days I started to feel more comfortable in listening and speaking in Spanish. Teachers are experienced and very supportive. I took many foreign language classes in the past, but often I encountered teachers who switched to English to explain grammar points. In GLC teachers use as much Spanish they could. They encourage students at their level to express in Spanish. Overall I gained confidence in studying Spanish.
Experiencia fantástica: Wouter runs a friendly and comfortable school with excellent teachers and helpful suggestions for activities after class. The accommodation options are varied and convenient - I chose the home stay option. Tlaquepaque is a great location, with plenty to see and do there, but also with easy Metro access to Guadalajara.
Felicidades Walter
Experiencia fantástica: I highly recommend studying and partaking in homestay. I felt safe to wander and come home to a “home away from home”. I studied for a week and enjoyed learning the next level of Spanish for me as part of a holiday prior to returning to work! There was one other student in the class and felt we were matched well. Thank you!
Thanks Sharon, good to hear you had a good time.
Experiencia fantástica: We had 5 mornings at the school, we are beginners and the level of instruction catered to our needs. Our two teachers were marvellous and I would highly recommend the school
Experiencia fantástica: The teachers were awesome. The only somewhat issue is it is really tricky to combine students with such different capabilities in a class, so some classes you may not get as much as you wanted from certain sessions. The classes usually had only one or two other people in them. I still learned a lot. Wouter takes great care of his students before during and after classes. The home stays were great. It is definitely very budget friendly too.
Experiencia fantástica: Son muy amables con los alumnos, buenas maestras, en especial Diana.
Experiencia fantástica: I highly recommend GLC. The teachers I had were amazing. Karen was knowledgeable about the language and a skilled teacher. Wouter was responsive throughout my stay and provided information and opportunities for an enjoyable stay in Guadalajara. He took us hiking to a beautiful waterfall one week and to some nearby ruins the next as well ask recommending other things to do in the city. Such a friendly place as well as being a great place to learn.
Experiencia fantástica: I can highly recommend GLC if you are looking for ways to improve your spanisch skills in Guadalajara. Wouter is super nice, the classes are well organized and worth every penny. I learned a lot in the time being and would always advice this school. Not just because it is very economical, but also because of the familiar atmosphere between the teachers and students and the free outside school activities that are offered. Wouter can also help you out if you are looking for a place to stay in Tlaqueparque, a quiet and lovely neighborhood of Guadalajara. 5 Stars, no doubt!
Experiencia fantástica: Good teachers located in tourist friendly Tlaquepaque. Owner is a great host.
Experiencia negativa: Due to COVID my flights to Mexico were cancelled back in June/July. I asked Wouter, the owner, to refund my $100 deposit I made prior to the pandemic. We have exchanged emails for months, and despite me providing PROOF that my flights were cancelled, he has taken the route of 1) arguing with me about policy, and 2) claiming that the $100 goes towards the mental energy of booking me. In my opinion, a business is defined by how it handles crises. I think we can all claim that what we have gone through this year is a crisis. Therefore it boggles me that any business owner wouldn't be flexible with clients and their business policies in general. I have received refunds from many businesses, as I am sure many have, due to COVID. This empathy and flexibility towards clients maintains trust, and ultimately, a client returning to the business in the future. Sadly this will not be the case for me in regards to GLC. Below is the last email I received. Make your own decision if you want to go this school. Dear Hailey, You are the first of all students that request their deposit back. Also about your flight. It is not that you couldn't go. It was just that particularly flight that was canceled and they gave you three options including taking the next available flight which was the next day, yesterday. The reason that you are not coming dont think has anything to do that your initial flight on the 3rd got canceled as you could have taken the next flight at the 4th. I have people still arriving from the US several times a week. Your financial situation is in away of no concern to me as my financial situation as well should be as no concern to you. It would be weird if I would raise the price from one day to another if I would have some financial problems. Paying you or not has nothing to do with honesty. Honesty is for example not saying that you cant come because of your flight has been canceled. Your not the first where a flight has been canceled and it happens once in a while. This never has been a reason for a student not to come. Actually the airline is not returning your money as I read it. They just give you a voucher which you can use for any other flight in the future and you probably paid more then a 100 USD deposit for this flight. Are they as well dishonest?? I think your duty as an honest client is understand that I cant change policies according my clients financial situations not even knowing if it is true or not and you should understand that cost already have been made. People have spend time on your reservation and have been paid for that. I am offering kind of the same as the airline is doing which is offering the online Spanish classes or deduct the 100 USD deposit when you like to come another time. I think it is your duty as an honest businessman to take into account the unfortunate circumstances of your clients that have chosen to give you their patronage. I think it is your duty as an honest client to take into account the unfortunate circumstances of our school that already have been spending on your reservation and have not be able to rent out your accommodation as this was not available as for 2 weeks before your arrival and has been closed for 2 months. In all the dealings I’ve had to do for refunds during this pandemic, I have yet to come up against a business that hasn’t been completely understanding and willing to refund me. In all the dealings I´ve had with cancellations and school being closed during this pandemic, I have yet to come up against a client that hasnt been completely understanding and willing to accept my proposal according the deposit payment. Best regards, Wouter Stut
Experiencia fantástica: I had an incredible experience at the Guadalajara Language Center! I took Spanish classes there during Feb/March 2020 and couldn't have asked for a better experience. The teachers are amazing and help you learn practical language skills, the director (Wouter) is well-connected and can point you toward anything you need in the city, and there are so many activities and excursions you can do while in Tlaquepaque such as walking tours, markets, bike tours, hiking, soccer, etc. I will definitely be coming back in the future.
Experiencia positiva: Very good spanish school! Teachers were very good and each with different teaching styles to suit your specific learning style. And Wouter the director is very good about organizing events and making sure everybody gets the most out of their stay. I stayed in the shared apartment and it was perfect! Best value for the money in my opinion.
Thanks Shawn, nice to hear you had a good time. Thanks for the review. If there is anything else I can do for you just let me know.
Experiencia fantástica: I studied Spanish for 4 weeks in the Guadalajara Language Centre and it was an amazing experience. Studying Spanish here has been great, I feel way more confident in day to day situations and am able to have small conversations with people. I feel that in only 4 weeks with no prior experience in spanish, it exceeded my expectations. I regularly get compliments about my Spanish, people are very surprised that I just had Spanish classes for 4 weeks, which is all due to the great effort of the teachers. Besides the great classes, the Guadalajara Language Centre also offers a lot of (free) activities. Wouter, the owner, will take you hiking in the beautiful canyon nearby, you can visit lucha libre together in guadalajara (you pay your own ticket), there are free walking tours and a lot more. And if you decide to do something else and have some questions, Wouter is always very willing to help you. The language school is in Tlaquepaque, which is a beautiful little town, 30 minutes from Guadalajara. You can stay there but if you prefer Guadalajara, Ubers are around 80/100 pesos but another great options is the camion (bus 275b) for 7 pesos. I took it every day and never had any problems. All in all a great experience!
Experiencia fantástica: Had an excellent experience. You are assessed during the classes and moved if you have over or under estimated your skill level. Tutors were all very nice and use a range of methods. The additional tours and visits arranged were lots of fun and allowed us to experience some more local things than we might have managed alone
Experiencia fantástica: I am 76 years old and learning Spanish as a hobby. I had been studying the language by myself for three years and wanted to experience the formal instruction in a place where Spanish is spoken as a daily language. What attracted me to this school was the fact that it offered my stay with a Mexican family as an immersion program. I had the fortune to stay with the Bustamante's. Javier and Tere were not only perfect hosts but also tremendous teachers of Spanish as well as the Mexican culture. Our mealtime conversations covered a variety of topics ranging from our backgrounds to foods, tourist sites, politics and social issues. Twice a day we spent a considerable amount of time conversing with each other, of course, Javier helping with my Spanish. It felt as if I had had another set of teachers in them. When I had difficulty understanding them, they would slow down and patiently repeated their words. We had so much fun talking about so many different things that we joked that we were solving the problems of the world together. Once I told Javier that I had a hard time understanding the language that Mexicans on the street use, he advised me that I should go to the town square and try to talk with people as often as possible. I followed his advice and went to the town square almost every night and initiated a conversation with whoever sitting alone on a bench. Most people I approached were very kind and quite willing to talk with me. I enjoyed the experience tremendously. The language school under the guidance of Wouter Bastian is well run and the quality of teachers is outstanding. My four weeks of stay in Tlaquepaque passed quickly and I hated leaving the school and the Bustamante's. If I were a little younger than my actual age, I would consider returning to them over and over again.
Experiencia fantástica: Awesome school, the school offer a lot of activities beside class like food tour, hiking, city tour, parties etc. if you wanna enjoy study spanish also experience Mexico culture , stop searching, here is the place to be, they also provide the short term apt rental and homestay, pretty much everything, my teacher is Monica y Edith. both teachers are awesome, one of the best school in my life !! strongly recommend !!
Experiencia fantástica: I just spent 5 weeks in Tlaquepaque, learning Spanish at GLC and exploring the area through various activities and tours. I really enjoyed my time and learnt so much. My teacher (Monica) was fabulous and Wouter (owner of GLC) was an amazing resource. I also used GLC's accomodations: I first spent 2 weeks at a homestay and after that 3 weeks in an apartment. I was happy with both options and wish I could have stayed a lot longer. I absolutely recommend GLC, if you are looking to start learning Spanish or just wanting to improve, they have options for everyone!
Experiencia fantástica: My family has been coming here for a couple of years now. Last year for three weeks and this year for a month. My daughter goes to a local Montessori school in the mornings, and my wife and I take private tutoring lessons in the morning. We also rent an apartment from the school, which is close to town, the school, and has every amenity we need. The owners name is Wouter and he is super responsive to any need that may arise. He is Dutch, but has lived in Mexico for many years and has a lovely family. He lives right near town and uses WhatsApp to respond quickly to anything that arises. It is nice having an English speaker who also knows the area so well just in case. Wouter not only runs a school and rents out apartments, he also arranges homestays and outings. When we arrived last year, he invited my family to join his at the zoo, and we had a great time. The school itself is close to the center of town, and has multiple classrooms and balcony space for both private tutoring and small classes. The prices are affordable and competitively priced. They will cater the content to what you want to work on, and even take you to local museums and coffee shops if you want. Tlaquepaque is an amazing town, it feels very safe, and you can't beat the culture. It is a tourist destination, but only for other Mexicans and Latin Americans. Restaurants, coffee shops, and art stores fill the streets, along with the sounds of Mariachi. The heart of town is around El Parián, and is closed to cars. It is only a 20 minute uber ride to the airport, to downtown Guadalajara, and only 40 minutes to Lake Chapala. And being a mile high, it is much cooler than the latitude suggest. The bit months are typically during spring in North America. In late June or early July, the rainy season comes and the weather cools to a high of about 80 degrees with daily thunder storms. It is a perfect summer temperature, and not very humid. I couldn't recommend the Guadalajara Language Center enough!
Experiencia fantástica: large professional staff so i did not meet them all - my tearchers were edith - monica - elizabeth - alan - and each was responsive to my questions and made learning fun and stressless. accurate assessment of skill level - diverse student body - good value - excellent location as tlaquepaque is safe, clean, quiet, mellow and people smile and look you in the eye and are polite - and guadalajara is literally at your doorstep as the bus (40¢) into the city center stops at the school. the school takes students on hikes into the hills and lakes - arranges 45 minute massages ($15.) if you want one - arranges pedicures - takes students to the haunted walk-about, arranges an amazing trips to archaeological ruins, a really great walking food tour, accomodations and more :) wouter - the owner of the school - is terrific and very easy going. * i had to have dental work done and wouter took time to take me to the dentist so i would have a clear understanding of the procedures to be done. * furthermore the machine they used to asses my teeth was unlike anything we have back in the states - i was shocked that it was so cutting edge. * and without knowing the diagnosis my dentist back in the states had given me, this dentist in tlaquepaque gave me the identical diagnosis. upshot - the guadalajara language school - and tlaqupaque earn an A+
